Do you notice how you have to tread on eggshells cause everyone gets puffed up if you say something that is actually correct. The reason why people get puffed up by those statements isn't because they are not factual. They are not claiming that you do in fact agree with gay marriage for example, they are simply pissed off at your opinion on something that does not effect you personally. Your right to free speech is just that, a right to express your opinion without legal persecution. It does not emancipate you from public ridicule and slander. After all, others have the right to their opinion too which in the case you have given above is that your opinion is immoral just as your opinion is that gay marriage is immoral.

Also, your last two paragraphs in particular lead me to suspect that you need to work on a few issues before having valuable sociological observations to share. Just my opinion.
