Hey guys!
In this guide I will tell you how to make lucid dreaming as simple as breathing, literally.
I have had lots of success with the idea of presence and mindfulness which have helped me to move away from the idea of inductions and becoming lucid, or in other words to see lucidity as a result in the future.
And instead focusing on the idea of BEING lucid, being aware and being present. And that way I don't have to fall asleep and hope to become lucid, I already am lucid and I then fall asleep.
This is the idea of being not doing.
To make that discussion short: What I do is that I harness sexual energy to become super aware during the day and night and I meditate morning and night to have an activated brain.
This way I recall more dreams than I can handle and have lucid dreams a few times a week.
But this is not the topic for today! (But it has relevance for what I will talk about later.)
The only "problem" with this is that it's not very fun. I don't have to challenge myself or learn anything new. But today I read about an idea that made my motivation jump!
We have all probably heard and tried the WILD method and had frustrating nights and had high expectations, perhaps we have had some success but the consistency of that success can never match the amount of DILDs that we have had. The most ideal lucid dreaming experience for all of us would be to just lay in bed and then jump into a dream instantly at the beginning of the night.
Although we have heard that we need to be in REM so doing the WILD at the beginning of the night isn't very smart and WBTB is the best way to go and yadayadayada.
Also the biggest problem we have with the standard WILD technique is the obstacle of handling discomfort.
Most of us probably give up in the relaxation phase of each WILD process. And then even if we manage to endure we get some strange sensation, get excited and then it's suddenly over. You might be able to relate.
Anyway I think I have finally found a way to make this process not only doable but enjoyable!
Let me introduce you to a few concepts that I hope can make the WILDing process FUN!
The first thing we need to do is to get FREEDOM FROM OUTCOME. Which is to completely let go of the outcome. Let's brainwash you!
Yes you want a lucid dream, but would you not rather want to learn to love the process that produces lucid dreams consistently? I mean if you don't like to practise, what's the point? It's like going to the gym but not enjoying lifting the weights, it's a recipe for frustration.
And well if you do what I described above you'll most likely get a DILD anyway, so just enjoy the WILD practise for the fun in the practise in itself.
Like if you kick a ball against a plank you don't overanalyse your kick or identify yourself and get emotional by the kick, you just kick the ball to kick the ball.
That way you don't have to be frustrated when result doesn't come, because that is not the goal, there is no goal, the action is enough in itself.
This is why not being in REM or not practising at the ideal time doesn't matter, we don't do it to WILD, we do it because we like to do it!
If you are tired and exhausted it's most likely not the ideal state to read a book in, but if you like to read it doesn't matter you do it anyway.
(Of course we work towards a result, but that is already established by doing the action so no need to focus on that. The choice of action moves you closer to your goals anyway. But when we make the actions our only goal is to enjoy the process of action. This is the key in achieving freedom from outcome.)
The second thing is to learn to ENDURE DISCOMFORT. This one is the most difficult of them all, but also the most freeing. Our western culture is so dependent on instant gratification and comfort (TV, fast food, social media, consumerism etc.) that for you to just sit on a chair and do nothing for a few minutes feels like torture! But when it comes to lucid dreaming we somehow believe that WILD will be a walk in the park mastered in a few weeks.
This is why I meditate! Because our mind aren't pure as a child anymore. We are filled with stress and anxiety, and even if you might not feel like you are, compared to the younger version of you, you most likely are!
The idea that inspired me to write this guide at all was this: "Purification of the mind = Pain + Mindfulness"
And so much of my personal transformation made sense! This explained why flirting with girls, going to the gym, meditation felt so liberating!
When you can handle pain and enoy it you feel unstoppable and happy.
And since I have learned to endure pain in the other areas of my life, now it's time to honor that process for fun and do it every night as well.
The solution to handle pain is to be in non-resistance to it. For example if you fail, see what's funny in it and learn from it.
To use psychic energy and focusing your attention on the negative might seem logical to do, but it actually drains you of energy that you could have used on learning and progressing. When you whine and complain you are not accomplishing anything productive at all. So work your positivity as a muscle and enjoy the highs and lows and realize that it is all part of the process.
I think it was Churchill that said "Success is to walk from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm"
And basically that is what I do for the other things I described as well:
Socialising/ Flirting: Talking to everybody and realizing that not everyone will like me but those who will, will like me alot. So on each rejection I laugh at it for the absurdity of being abnormally social or just the fact that someone can be so mad by me just saying hello.
Going to the gym: When I feel the pain in my muscles on each rep I just pump myself up and feel like a warrior and have fun, instead of feeling unmotivated by the uncomfortable pain, I feel motivated!
Meditation: I know that it's very difficult for me to focus, so what I do is to just try and when I fail by for example falling asleep or having to move, I am just happy by the fact that I am meditating at all! And then I just acknowledge the fact that I am more focused then than before. So why not continue and see what happens?
Now it's very clear that it's not the pain in itself that is the problem, but rather your relation to it. If you can laugh, feel motivated and not judge yourself pain isn't your enemy, but an indication that you are doing the right thing, which is being in the process of right action! Another simple way to look at it is to view each failure as the end of a warmup: "Oh I failed, now the real practise can begin" and as you move more and more into the flow of action you realize that each failure can be seen as a stepping stone to a new level IF you continue to take action at this point. Every failure is just an end of a warmup.
Ok so now you got the right mindset.
And frankly.. that is all you need.
If you want the practical side of what I do that is simple: I sit up in my bed and focus on my breath (I also start a timer to beat my personal best).
And then I apply these mindsets to the practise. If I fail (fall asleep, move, itch) I'll just continue anyway because my mind is most likely more primed than before.
So it's a balance between being happy but also working hard towards the goal. Enjoying the moment but at the same time thinking "It's not over until I win!".
Yupp my lucid dreaming practise can be summarised with:
DILD: Focusing on my breath for 20 min a day and harnessing sexual energy.
WILD: Go to bed and breathe.
So this is basically how you make the WILD process SIMPLE.
I hope this enormous wall of text was of value to you and that you find it useful. I am going to use these ideas to make the process of WILD as enjoyable as breathing, oh wait...
That's all that it takes.
Peace!
