      Are Hypnagogic Hallucinations Scary?

Or are they just normal non-scary hallucinations?

The things you see are created by you.
Go to bed in a bad mood, you will probably have bad images.
Go to bed after a horror movie, and see what you will.
Have a fantastic day, then watch a comedy. The images should be pleasant.

      Plan your day.
Get up late after a nice long sleep in.
      Go for a stroll.
Treat yourself to a slap up meal.
      Watch a favourite film.
Make sure you have no distractions.
In the evening, take a shower, or bath.
Set the mood in bedroom with pictures on walls.
      Light incence sticks.
      Light a faint candle.
Make sure the sheets are fresh on the bed.
In fact, you should make a list of your perfect day, then plan it all out in advance.
Now go to bed and notice what you will.
      Take notes.

      Plan your day.
      Wake to horrible day.
      Argue with yourself.
Watch horror film, etc,etc - bed
      Take notes

You may be surprised at the results.
Anybody else that has done this will know exactly what happens ( Or will they )

You only see what you take with you. Said Yoda to Luke ( Or something like that )

As you have already got reply to this from many people, HH are mostly what you make them to be. If you freaking out and expecting demons, that you most likely not gonna have pleasant experience. If you have happy thoughts, you are most likely not gonna have anything scary.

You have to get over this HH are scary. HH are most of the time for most of the people pleasant experience. Feeling sensations like flying at warp speed, falling down, seeing awesome images, that are totally surprising, incredibly detailed and just totally awesome.

No matter what you see or hear, you are laying in your bed, safe. If you know HH exist, they will not catch you by surprise. Many people don't get HH at all. Everytime I WILD and I don't get to LD, but I got some awesome HH, I'm happy.

My most recent HH experience involved a cat sitting on my bed. I reached out to pet the cat and and after a few strokes I realized I had reached into a dream. Does that sound scary?

The more often you experience HH the more comfortable you'll become with them.

Pets that you care for deeply can often enter dreams, and there is no control over them ( For me anyway )
Even in a lucid state, where I have full control, a pet still acts on its own free will.

Yeah it was my recently deceased cat.

Strangely I've also noticed an inability to control dream animals while controlling people is easy. Maybe it's because it's easier to understand what's going on in another person's mind since we can relate while we can't similarly understand an animals behavior.

One time I saw a fleet of giant Darth Vader heads the size of buildings floating in formation over a vast blue ocean. When I woke up, I lol'd.

Whether or not you choose to interpret what you see, hear, or feel as scary plays a pretty big part too. I've had situations that could have been scary but I didn't find them to be so they weren't. Stay positive and you're good.
