      Getting past imagery

The last two nights I believe I was very close to transitioning into a dream. I've been attempting WILD during day time naps and after sleeping for about 5 hours.

I get to a point where I am aware and very passive in my thoughts, my body becomes almost numb, and I really have to put effort into moving. One point while in this relaxed state I moved due to discomfort/pain and all of my limbs retained a very numb sensation, similar to the feeling of needles but not as intense.

After being very relaxed and feeling myself almost drifting off I begin to see shapes and colors, I would not describe them as objects, instead more of a colored scribble. Along with these images comes a noise similar to the noise you get when you rub your ear. It starts off quiet and gains in intensity with the images.

At this point, no matter how passive I was I begin having conscious thoughts, I try to suppress them right away and dismiss them but it seems no matter what I do the imagery slowly fades and I return to my relaxed state.

What can I do to get past these, I am hoping that with time I will remain passive through these images but it is quite frustrating right now.

Keep trying at it. You're close to a WILD. Concious thoughts can be annoying and have been the cause of many lucid dreamers frustrations during WILDs. Once you try it some more you'll get better and better at staying passive. Repitition sucks but it's needed.

I agree with jmanjohn. You can try to gently end the thoughts and return to WILDing. Or, you can replace these thought with mantra. One of the simplest, but a very poverful one is "I am dreaming". If you can time it with your breathing, so it's rhytmic, even better. If not, that's fine too. This will hopefully push out all other thoughts. Happy dreams

Last night I experienced my first WILD

based off the layers of lucidity series done by Reese Jones on youtube I'd say I reached layer 2 of lucid dreaming. As I was falling asleep I saw the imagery I've reached before and at that point I recall thinking, but my thoughts remained passive, The last thing I recall thinking was "this is a wild" shortly after I found myself falling through my bed and instantly had the awareness that I was placed inside a dream.

Wanted to say thanks for the tips! If your interested in reading details on my first WILD I just got done writing a DJ entry, thanks again!

PS the mantra "I am dreaming" helped me get through the beginning of my imagery =D

That's awesome! Congrats! If you have not done so yet, now would be a good time to read some stabilization and control tutorials. Remember this happy feeling. Try to recall it everytime, when you practicing awareness or RC, or thinking about LDing. Your mind will associate your happiness with lucid dreaming and will help you achieve both. Happy dreams
