This part concerns me:

I was taught, and everything I can find agrees with this, that blood is never blue, ever. Blood is a deep red when oxygenated and a much darker red when without oxygen. The red hue comes from the hemoglobin, not the oxygen itself. I've searched a dozen sights which all agree blood is never blue, only red.

Is, perhaps, 'blue' blood a term referring to the colour of deoxygenated blood? In the same sort of way that 'blue' steak is not really blue at all...

Possibly, and I hope so, because this is quite the breakthrough and could save a lot of people. Though I've never heard the term "blue" steak, is that an english idiom?

I think the concept is traditionally French, but I could be mistaken. It means having it almost as rare as possible without having it completely raw; seared on the outside, basically. Tasty.

Very interesting, though I didn't see anything on how it could prevent CO2 buildup which is going to limit how much time it could buy you even if the other problems with using it for longer than 30 minutes weren't a factor.

Even in its current state it could save a lot of lives. If they can improve the length of time it could be used for as well as find some way to neutralise the CO2 in the absence of a working respiratory system then that could lead to great things indeed. It would certainly give those with compromised lung function a much higher quality of life.

I believe that in normal pressure conditions it takes around 15 mins to get c02 poisoning, under water it takes around 7 (At least thats what I remember)

Why can't you just exhale the buildup?
