Future 'dream recorders' claimed possible (Wired UK)

Thoughts? Ideas?

No doubt it is in theory possible, to say otherwise would be to say that dreams are not a product of brain activity, but as dreams take place on the conceptual level of brains and we currently have no idea what the physical workings and configuration of that level is, it'll require a major conceptual breakthrough (on the scale of DNA or special relativity) before we can make real progress here, and who knows how far off in the future that is.

I think it's easier than you think. Just take this research, for example (over 10 years ago!):

And I doubt that the visual aspect of dreams is handled differently than regular vision, brains tend to reuse circuitry.

I have no doubt that it can happen. I don't think its even inconceivable that it could happen in our lifetime. But its definitely and long way off and as Xei said it will take a big leap in our understanding of the human brain. Personally I find the idea to be amazing and the idea of literally being able to explore our dreams with perfect recall is unbelievably exciting, so much so that I think that one day I will try to do it in a lucid.

No more pesky dream journals... Just imagine being able to see every last detail from your dreams. So far off though, a HUGE breakthrough would be required...
