      Random question for Christians

I was thinking yesterday, and I want some serious opinions on this question:

If you were forced to become the ruler of hell, would this be a good thing or not?

Disregard the moral implications of torturing people and potential guilt of /yourself/; just imagine you happen to swap bodies and minds with the ruler of hell. Is this an improvement or detriment to your total wellbeing?

Well, i think you are approaching this from the perspective that Satan is the ruler of hell, which he is not, he is merely one of its' more prolific inhabitants. So far as i know, there is no ruler of hell.

Even though I am not a Christian, if i was the ruler of hell i would not be bound by anyone's rules but my own, therefore i would not torture anyone. Instead, i would command an army of the dammed to scratch away at the earth's bedrock and mantle until we are liberated from our subterranean prison. Subsequently, i would take over the world and estabilish it under my domain.

Well... I'm no Christian, but I think it would be an honor to have such a great task. I think god should have a lot of confidence in me to let me do something that is so important for his divine system.

Going by your verbiage, the only one capable of "forcing" me into a position of ruling Hell would be God Himself. If I were still a Christian, while I might be uncomfortable about having such a position, I would not consider it any kind of moral quandary as the directive would be coming from the ultimate Authority.

As I am now, I would be unable to willingly participate in the eternal torture of souls. I would likely attempt to turn it into something closer to a purgatory and revamp it into a hospital for souls, rather than a prison (assuming I can't just shut it down - people can create their own hells, they don't need mine.)

      This is a strange question.......!!

As far as I understand it God didn't make Satan the ruler of hell. More like, Satan took up the position himself out of his own free will. From what I understand, initially Lucifer was actually made the ruler of the Earth by God - and still is considered the "Prince of the World" until the "return of Christ".

This question proposes that God forced Satan to rule hell. I think you're proposing the question onto the wrong group! Christians generally hold the view that Satan rebelled against God and ruling hell is a part of that rebellion. There are a few references in the bible that show that Satan is not actually the true ruler of hell. For instance, the gates to hell remain under God's control. And in the second coming those gates are supposed to be re-opened by Gods will, so that all the inhabitants can have a second chance to prove they aren't evil.

From what I understand, certain Jewish sects hold the opposite position. That Satan is actually, and remains, an angelic servant of God who only rules hell because he was commanded to. Some even go a step further and claim that Satan is actually a role that angels play. And different angels in different time periods have played as Satan. But again, this isn't actually a Christian view from what I understand. At least, not a catholic one!

Well, according to christians, the devil is also tormented. The only real difference is he has the power to take his torment out on others. Its not as bad as just going to hell, but its not exactly good either; that is of course, if you happen to feel better when you take your torment out on other people/things. If not, its just bad either way.

There is no ruler of the earth, but you would be hard pressed to convince some kings, chairmen, presidents, etc. of that.

If you were forced to become the ruler of hell
There is no ruler of hell.

It's a misconception. People tend to think that Satan rules Hell, God rules Heaven.

Satan isn't even in Hell yet. He roames the earth.

Satan is no more the ruler of hell than a prison slave is the master of the prison.

      I agree with Noogah.

But to answer your question, bad!!! Hell is like the worst place ever. If I could escape I would sure try, and then maybe bring along the other inhabitants - if they would promise to not try and kill me and maybe show each other some friendliness. >.<

I also agree with Noogah, as I am a Christian myself. And to all the New Age nutcases on this forum...if you think you are holy enough to achieve happiness/eternal life, you are dead wrong. The human race is a fallen creation, and only God can save us.

      Necromancy doesn't seem very Christian

Also, while "nutcases" may be a friendly greeting among your people, it is largely frowned upon here.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Sorry, I'll try to stow the insults. (no, I'm not form 4chan)

But where did the necromancy comment come from?
