How would they wear their phone on their head so it wouldn't fall off? Would there be a way to control the brightness?

Regarding your questions I would give them the optimum times for REM which are:
4.5 hours after falling asleep
6 hours afa
7.5 hours afa

Nice idea but I agree how would we wear it on our heads?

If we did that it couldn't detect when we are in REM and the flashes might not appear then and plus I don't have a night table.

Yeah, but that was not part of Griffin's original scope - he was trying to figure out the timing.

I second MarineRecon's times, but it should be too easy to make it completely configurable, perhaps just defaulted to 4.5...

What you have to understand is that a camera flash in a dark room is entirely visible with your eyes closed, there are plenty of "strobe light" applications on the android market that take advantage of your phones camera flash and use it as a strobe light. I've just sat in bed, closed my eyes, and pointed a slow strobe at my ceiling and the flashes are COMPLETELY visible with my eyes closed. I think this might be advantageous because you don't have to wear anything on your face. So I just want to reiterate its the Camera Flash LED


Thanks MarineRecon and IAmCoder! I would have the time settings configurable, I was just wondering if people have rem periods large enough or at regular enough times to be able to set just a timer for, because I know lucid dreaming masks sense when you're eyes are fluttering in a REM period.
Because I think that if you configured it to go off multiple times corresponding to your multiple REM periods, it has very high chances of working, and would be a useful tool.

I've started development, some android devices are picky and use a particular code that their manufacturer designated to set off the Flash so it's not gonna be as easy as I thought.

If anyone has an android device, once I come out with a beta I'd be willing to let some of you try out the application for input. I hope this isn't considered advertising or against the rules of this forum, I'm just trying to gather input.
