Hearing my own voice in my dreams

I am new here, so hello to everyone

Twice now, I have had dreams in which I have heard my own voice questioning my actions in my dreams.

The first time I was dreaming I was in a tree house, and I saw a sink with a mirror above it. The mirror had a pig from Angry Birds in it. Now, for whatever I reason, I was compelled to wash my hands in the sink. Suddenly, the dream, which was in 1st person view, suddenly switches to 3rd person, and I hear my own voice say "At this point, I don't know how I didn't realize I was dreaming" then it went back into 1st person view and the dream continued normally.

The second time I was a spartan from the game "Halo" in a warehouse with closed gates. So I walked around the warehouse for a second, when suddenly I come across a gate blocking my path. Again the dream switches to Third-Person view, and I hear my voice say "I don't know why I didn't do something really epic in the dream". Then the spartan pulled out a sticky grenade and stuck it to the gate, blowing it up. The he ran away (all in 3rd person)

I have no idea what to make of this.

      Welcome to dream views.

I honestly don't know what other voice to expect in a dream other than your own. I'd just go with it if it makes you lucid.

P.S. This is proof that mirrors are not out to get us!

I think you misunderstood. This hasn't made me become lucid. I just heard my own voice question how I didn't become lucid. In the first dream I heard the voice, but I paid no attention to it. In the second dream it only slightly affected my actions. I never became lucid when I heard the voice. The whole thing just confused me. It was almost like part of my mind was trying to reach me and let me know I was dreaming.

That's really hilarious. I've experienced loads of similar things, where it's obvious that on some level you know you're dreaming but you don't fully realise it and become lucid. Sometimes I take risks in dreams and think "I might as well, it's only a dream", yet I'm not lucid. I think it's a good sign, it means you're really close to lucidity, just a little more preparation and you'd have probably become lucid.

Oh sorry, I understand what you're saying now. I think things like that actually happen to a lot of people on occasions. I have once held a whole conversation in dream about me being in a dream without grasping the idea.

I think that this is what's happening. You could try practicing All Day Awareness and you might start to pay attention to the voice. Other than that I have nothing useful to say.

      Welcome!
And could it be as simple as talking in your sleep and it just not waking you up?

Possibly, but I don't usually talk in my sleep, and I was speaking in past-tense, which is odd. And I spoke as if I knew I was dreaming, though I didn't actually become lucid.

hmmmpfff, well im stumped lol, but it could be just a mix of you mumbling (just making normal talking tones) and your brain in its current state, just trying to translate it, because technically you think before you talk, so you think in of what you want to say, correlated with what your mumbling = your voice your dream

You don't need to consciously know it to be aware that you are dreaming - many times I've been completely absorbed by the plot without the slightest hint that I'm dreaming until I've had a DC walk up to me and convince me that I'm dreaming.

I think what's going on here is that you subconsciously know when you are dreaming and just don't transfer it over into true awareness. Try using awareness like mentioned above, or trying using mantras to help enforce the notion that you'll realize that you're dreaming.

You're close! You just have a tiny step further

Thank you very much. everyone's advice is appreciated. I think I have a better grip on what's going on now. I have read the All Day Awareness tutorial and it looks useful. I'll give it a shot.

Funny. I just had this happen couple of days ago - I'm floating/flying in a high school gymnasium and I can hear myself mumbling "I'm dreaming" (this was my mantra before bed). Then I hear a voice I know is from deep in my mind saying "I wonder, how long it will take her to realize she is dreaming". That made me lucid.

So I believe you vere really close to getting lucid that time. Keep up your mantras and RCs and get into daytime awareness.

It happened again. Well, I didn't hear my voice, but I did see something.

Recently, I have been obsessed with the game "Skyrim" and in the game you can open containers and look at their contents. This opens up a menu where you look at items, which shows an image of the item and it's description. I was dreaming I was in a world similar to Skyrim, and I walked up to a container and opened it. I then saw a purple jewel with a gold ring, and it had a purple aura. The description for the item said "Use this gem to become lucid" or something like that. I took the gem and walked away, without even thinking about it.

      Who hasn't

As for the dreams, your brain is trying to help you become lucid, or he's joking with you
Sometimes in my dreams, I talk to my friends about lucid dreaming but don't realize that I'm dreaming.
Reality checks really help. Just do them when you see something strange when you're awake

"What if you slept, and what if in your sleep you dreamed you went to heaven and there
you plucked a strange and beautiful flower, and what if when you awoke you had the flower in your hand? Ah,
      what then?"
      - Samuel Taylor Coleridge
