I've encountered several times on this site people claiming that you aren't 100% yourself in your lucids and some of them even says that if you become 100 % you will wake up automatically. Anyone else heard about this? I'm looking for an explanation!

Thanks - Bohman

I've felt more of myself sometimes in my lucids I am more capable of being open sexualy in my dreams, and honest with myself, I may do things that I'd never do in real life, I feel as if I'm super open minded in my lucid dreams.

They also change me phycholgicaly, like I'll gain fetishes when I wake up.

It's true that I'm not 100 percent mysel in lucid dreams. Sometimes when I become lucid I can't remember what task I had planned to carry out in my next lucid dream, and I know that if I totally "become myself" so that I can remember, I'll wake up.

when I become lucid, I have trouble remembering the day or any task I set out for myself as well. I really have to set there and think. So mostly in my lucid I do whatever first comes to mind and can barely do the lucid task of the month. As for my personality - its slightly different. Im not sure in which way or why. And sometimes it changes.

Like in some dreams I act years older than I really am, in others, younger.

Yeah, I also noticed my actions aren't really what I would take if I were truly awake in my dream.

Everybody seems to be just like me, but I still haven't got any explanation to this yet , it'd be really exciting to know!

During dreams one's subconcious is more active, that's why one can do actions one would never do when awake. So I would say I'm just as much myself when I'm asleep as when I'm dreaming. But I behave differently when I'm less concious of course; I find myself alot more aggressive when dreaming especially.

Sort of like the scene in waking life where he can't really remember his personal information, he just knows that he''s dreaming.

i understand what you are saying, but i think that it is more interesting and fun when your not yourself because you get to play another 'role' with their own backstory, and each 'role' is different and it helps you to map out the structure of your mind...

example: my 'dream-person' is usually stuck in the middle of a very graphic action film, therefore my dream sign is unrealistic action or violence, and my mind exaggerates reality to a state which is unimaginable, with a crazy unimaginable plot which is only able to be shown through dreams....meaning basically each dream is a different film which is very graphic where you are in control of the main character....

I do believe I'm myself in my dreams, I'm a 100 % sure.

I always remember my indents and as "King and God" said only my personality changes.

Yes, most of LDs dont start as 100% yourself. But I estimate it is possible to become at least 80% like yourself. It is only an assumption that you wake up as you become more and more like yourself, as this never happened to me, and I was pretty close.

There are two explanations that I may give you.
One is very simle - while asleep some parts of your mind are asleep/disconnected and some participate in the creation of a dream. Therefore not all resources normally available while awake are available while asleep.

The other one is slightly more elaborate - there are many processes running in your mind. Call them subroutines, behavioral patterns, whatever (like expectations, extrapolations, fears, obligations, mental notes, etc) . While you are awake most of them are active. But while you are dreaming only some of them are active, mostly those that are directly involved in the dream. In a dream you would never notice that they are not present, only as you wake up and analyze the dream it becomes obvious that stuff is missing. When you become lucid you receive information from the already activated behavioral patterns, but you may work to activate more. For example I almost never experience fear in a dream but when I do it is blatantly obvious and the dream doesnt feel like the rest of my dreams. When I have sex in a dream I almost never think of the consequences, but when I do the dream stands out from the rest. These are just the two examples that I may think of off the top of my head.

The best kind of LDs that I've had were induced by FAs - in an FA many of the normal behavioral patterns are active since your mind thinks that you are awake... So it is easy to realize that you are asleep ( if you do RCs when you wake up)

Personally, I think we are more ourselves in our dreams then in the physical world. In our dreams we are existing within our mind, rather then hiding behind the mask of society in waking life.

I feel lighter in my dreams. I feel more open and in my lucid dreams i feel i can do anything, and i do. instead of walking a habitually float in my LD's. I usually stay close to the ground because i feel there isnt much to do in the air but i CAN fly because i have done it before without problem. Like i said, I feel like a superhuman form of myself, like an angel. I also feel more open, I know I can do whatever I want because im in a dream. Leo Volont once told me i had a high spiritual mind or something like that.

I don't understand how you couldn't be yourself. It's your mind. I mean, if anything, you would be more yourself in real life, because you don't have all of the inhibitions you have in everyday life. You don't try to act a certain way...It's just free, plain straight you.

First of all we have to ask what is being ourselves mean? For me it is the ability to analyze the situation and make informed decisions/ intelligent guesses. Maybe some people in this thread have different opinions, I'd like to hear them.

About my definition of being yourself -
You know how sometimes you try to remember something but in the end you forget? It is as if the thought of remembering was in your head but then disappeared without a trace for a long time? It is virtually impossible to notice that the thought is gone until later on when you remember again.

Being in a dream is kinda the same - you dont have many thoughts/expectations/obligations that are present in the everyday life. It is as if they dont exist at all in a dream. It is very hard to notice that they are not present. That could make you feel lighter/better/whatever. But it makes some people feel incomplete. It diminishes their awareness. That is because they are so dependent on these expectations/ extrapolations/ obligations/ duties/ whatever else they have in their real life. Without them people may feel like it's hard to make a decision, it's hard to come up with something on the spot, etc.
