Roryflyguy,
While you are dreaming, it starts to fade, get less clear and go black. You don't have to do anything, its as if someone is turning down a dimmer switch. You just kind of realize that you aren't standing up, but in bed. Your hands are usually the last things to leave the dream, so you can sometimes feel like you are still holding onto something. Try holding onto someones hands while you wake up--very weird because you can still feel their hands in yours for a while even though you are in your bed waking up. I don't mean to creep you out, it's actually very cool.
Anyway, don't worry about anything, nothing bad can happen. Just obsess on doing as many vivid reality checks throughout the day where you SERIOUSLY question whether it is a dream or not and follow through with testing it. You'll probably become lucid in a few days if you do this and MILD.
You've never been in another world before--it will blow your mind and it is worth the effort.
