If you are conscious in a dream and then wake up, you don't loose consciousness - its more like walking out of a cinema.

BTW to wake up from a lucid dream (I did it the other day for the lucid task because I wanted to make sure I remembered it) simply open your eyes!

Don't worry about it - I've been LDing on and off for nearly 35+ years and I'm 99.999% sure its safe!!!
