      Yes, I have also done this many times. Though, I now chalk it up to low level lucidity, personally. I think it is possible to dream of anything really. Lucidity being one of those things.

      It's kinda like in waking life, you can just go through the motions of stopping, saying to yourself that this could be a dream and doing a reality check with no real critical thinking or anything, and then going on without even remembering that you did it. Dreaming of a lucid dream is similar to this to me. It's like the emotions aren't there enough for you to have enough lucid dream 'feeling' to consider it a lucid dream although you technically did become lucid by most standards if not all. If the emotion(excitement, wonder or whatever) is not there it just feels like you only dreamed of having a lucid dream.

      I could be off, that's just my take on it.
