Went lucid, but then all became black

I have to share one dream with you and I would like to hear some helpful advices So here it is (this is just part of the dream): Last night I have dreamed of my friend who is my dreamsign. So we were fighting as we usually do. At one moment, I've said: "I'm sorry Tea (her name), but I have to do something!" So, I plugged my nose and tried to breathe. I could breathe. Then I thought: "Of course this is a dream, I dream of Tea". But as soon as I have realized I am dreaming, everything became black and I could feel my physical body. I stayed still, and tried DEILD, but I returned to the same dream, non-lucid. This happens to me often for some reason, I even see very vivid HH or I do RC and it succeeds, but then everything goes black and I can move, my body isn't paralyzed. How to make transition from that phase to LD?

Just relax, and remind yourself that the next thing you see will be a dream. Repeat this until the dream reforms. This will allow you to continue the dream lucidly. You can also rub your hands in the darkness to give you a sense of your physical body, which can be helpful in grounding yourself in the dream. You don't need to DEILD, because the dream isn't ending; this is just an anxiety response to becoming lucid.

I actually had a similar experience just this morning... I realized I was in a dream via DILD but the dream went fuzzy and collapsed a few seconds later... frustrating as hell since it was my first time lucid! Can any experienced LDers provide tips for how to make the LD last longer? Does the lucidity period just start to get longer every time you LD?

This same thing happened to me the night before last. I have only had a few lucid dreams over the past few months, though years ago I used to have longer, more frequent and more "productive" LD's. It is frustrating not having much control over my lucid dreams anymore, but I figure with more practice and study it will get better.

I had 2 lucid dreams last night, each one lasting no longer than 5 seconds. The second one I barely remember, but in the first I had a hard to describe awareness of my real body, which made me move really careful in my dream before it collapsed shortly after...

      Hey there,

I've had similar experiences. For myself, I've noticed that whatever I give more attention to in my dreams tends to get 'stronger' (for lack of better word). This can often lead to a vicious circle in which by worrying about something happening or trying to 'break away' from it, I'm actually feeding it attention, thereby shifting the focus of the dream to waking up.

The best thing to do, for me at least, is not to worry about it too much. Instead I will try to move my attention to whatever strand of dream I can, even if its just a sound, an image, or a feeling, and work from there. As I move my attention to this single dream image, it will often expand into a full blown dream and pull me back deeper into sleep, rather then having me wake up. I've had quite a few dreams that started with me on the verge of waking, the dream 'breaking up' to nothing but black, but then restarting as I manage to focus on whatever little strand of dream I can manage (sometimes even just making one up, and working from there).

      Hope that helps,
