Make a promise to yourself that you will not quit. Allow yourself like one day a year (Sensei does this) where you can quit LDing if you want to, otherwise, you MUST continue with practice. Many people get those moments of "what am I doing, spending all this effort on?", but it's all worthwhile when you get awesome dreams and can recall dreams every night.
Work hard on recall. Because once you get regular non-lucids, this sustains interest and motivation.
Find a form of waking awareness practice (not "ADA" necessarily, I prefer mindfulness/breath focus/tibetan dream yoga approach) that agrees with you and do it, and stick with it
Don't quit. Don't be discouraged if progress takes time: remember -- slow progress IS progress! The time will pass anyway! Wouldn't you rather have it pass gaining in dreaming ability day by day?
Love all your dreams, especially the non-lucid ones. They're usually the most interesting, anyway . Treat LDing as a life journey rather than as a static destination, and your perspective will become correct.
