I speak English as my main language, but I also speak a bit of German. However, I'm not fluent. I wonder, what's it like to have a conversation with a dream character in a language you're not fluent in? Do they replicate your lack of fluency? (I would assume so), do they speak gibberish that you automatically understand, or can your subconscious mind pick out bits of the language you had otherwise forgotten and help you speak the language a little better?

I once had a dream where I was speaking a Native American language, and had yellow subtitles in English in the bottom; that was a strange one.

Anyhow, if anyone has any interesting experiences with languages in their dreams, lucid or otherwise, it would be great to hear about it. Have you ever found you had a degree of fluency you'd never attain before, or perhaps could speak an alien tongue? Or speak cat? Linguistics is a fascinating thing. How does it work in the world of dreams?
