I would pick something that you can see in many different places, like for example:
"Every time I see something digital I'll check if I'm dreaming since electricity doesn't behave correctly in dreams." So you start checking things like light switches or other devices during the day, and yes from my experience this can cause lots of FAs.
Generally I wouldn't worry too much about doing RCs, just stay on the lookout for a dream, RCs are something you do when you're already suspicious, so it's good to just have something that reminds you to be suspicious. Ideally you want "am I dreaming" to be part of your everyday reasoning skills.
Because we reason in dreams the same way we reason while awake, we try to solve our dream problems the way we generally solve our real life problems.
