Do you use the WILD technique? If you do, this may be because you are too comfy in other positions, so you end up just falling asleep, mind and body. Lying on your back is just uncomfortable enough to keep your awareness up. If you do not use the WILD method, then I have no clue. It may just be coincidence, and there may be no correlation.

You can have a WILD in any position. It really depends on you preference of sleep position. I think you should be comfortable enough to fall asleep without any problem. And use WBTB to wake up your mind, so it doesn't fall asleep too quickly, before a dream is ready for you.

I've also found that sleeping on my side or especially on my back is very conductive to LD's. The % of times I've woken up laying on my back or my side as opposed to my belly (the position in which I mostly sleep in) is much greater I think, I'll not even try to figure out why, so many possibilities.

Well, if it works for you, you probably should stick to it
For me WILD works only when I'm in a really comfortable sleep position and not lying on my back (I tried it a few times but I just can't get to sleep while lying on my back). But I think theoretically WILD can work in any sleep position.

This is also interesting because I can't easily fall asleep on my back or even my side right away, it's between my micro-awakenings during the night or when I'm really about to dose off that I'm able to shift to said positions and increase my chances. When I do, I have higher chances of a LD as well as a nightmare but that's another story.
