      Dying/DC's

Something I've been wondering about here lately is what it would be like to DIE in a lucid dream. What happens? Should I try? I understand that nothing in your dreams can hurt you physically, but what does it do to you mentally?

I'd just like some input on what others have experienced with this.

Also, I'd like to make an 'imaginary friend'. I want to make a DC, and become friends with it. I've only had a couple lucid dreams so far, and the only thing I'm bothered by is how lonely I am in the dream. It seems as though all of my DC's are so distant. They don't want to talk.

So I figure that the best way to cure the dream loneliness is to make a re-occuring DC that will keep me company in my adventures. Is it easier said than done?

I've died many times in my dreams. Usually I wake up at the time of death. A few times the dream has continued without me really existing in the dream though. When people say nothing can hurt you in dreams, they mean you won't wake up with a bullet wound in your chest. You can still feel pain and all of the other senses however. So unless you have the right mind set at the time, dying can hurt quite a bit. It's interesting and you can try it if you want, but I don't really recommend it.

I've also used to feel very lonely in my dreams. I think that's why I have four dream guides now. They can be more than just helpful dream characters and be friends with you. Having my dream guides/dream friends around has always been very fun. Finding a dream friend is definitely something worth achieving.

I have never died in a lucid dream because I would have to cause it and it doesn't appeal to me to do that. Although I have died plenty of times in a regular dream and I definitely do feel pain. But I would say having a DC to be buddies with could be fun and it's relatively easy to do. All you really need is to believe that you can spawn one. I've spawned people before all it is is thinking or rather knowing that you can. So as longs as you know you can spawn that DC then anytime you lucid dream you should be able to do it.

How could you die in a lucid dream? You know it's not real so you know you can't really die. Dying in a lucid isn't exactly opening Pandora's box. The most that will happen is you'll wake up or change the dream scene.

Dying in an ordinary dream is an entirely different matter, though. That can be intense.

If you lack the proper dream control it is more than easy to die in a lucid dream. I have very good dream control, but I restrict myself from using some things like invulnerability for fun. I don't enjoy having total control because it feels like playing a game with all of the cheat codes (boring after a while). I die less often in my lucid dreams now, but it has happened many times before.

I've died many times in dreams before but they were mostly from a recurring nightmare I had had. It seems like just about everyone is different in how they react and what exactly happens as they die but almost everyone wakes up, or at least has a scene change. For me I would always be killed by a gunman chasing me down an alleyway (the nightmare part) and then shooting me in the back. I would fall in the gutter and there would be a large crowd surrounding me just staring at me and I would stay conscious for 5-10 seconds. After that I would feel myself floating up and then everything would go to a bright white light. After that I woke up.

Keep in mind, though, that this was back when I was 8 or so and believed strongly in Christianity, Catholicism to be exact. Now I'm more agnostic but leaning more towards atheism so I'm not sure what it would be like to die now.

How? How can you cease to exist and simultaneously be lucid in the dream? When you die in a lucid do you just lose control of your dream body or something?

In the situations where I don't wake up upon dying, it's like I'm watching a movie. I can still be aware that I'm in a dream, but I'll have no body and no real place in the dream anymore. I'm forced to just passively view what's left of the dream.

When I was young before I understood lucid dreams, I used to kill myself when I realized I was dreaming. This would cause me to wake up every time. I didn't understand that you could control it and so they scared me.

I have died in a lucid dream once, it was my first lucid that i can recall, I was being chased down a hallway by a green monster, i realized that i was dreaming because monsters don't exist, i yelled "FREEZE TIME" but having no experience with dream control it didn't work quite right, every thing stopped (including me) and i could see the monster getting closer in slow motion, he swung his claw into my chest with a backhand motion and i could feel my ribs crack before i was knocked into the wall behind me and woke up.

The one time i died in a non-lucid i was shot in the head after i had shot someone in the stomach, i remember a few seconds of the dream spiraling into fractals, then falling through darkness with no thoughts for a good 2 minutes before i woke up, not fun.

Yet again, that's how it is for you. It might not be true for everyone.

Personally i can't die in a lucid even if i don't have my control at the top (which is rare). Just because i know that it's my dream, i can't die.
Now, once something bad happens and you expect to die, then it will probably happen... after all everything is controlled by your thoughts.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.

I never once said that it was true for everyone. I was just describing my own personal experiences with it because he asked for them.

I personally have no experience with death in a dream, however, if you do wish to pursue it in a dream- I see no repercussions to it. As many of my friends have dreams where they die, they tell me it doesn't effect them too much. However, everyone is different and I suggest you only do what you're comfortable with. Death in dreams will most likely not be too disturbing, seeing as your mind doesn't know how actual death feels like, it'll just be an imitation.

Creating a DC companion is a lovely goal, however, it may take a bit of practice to get the same DC in every dream. That doesn't mean you can't do it, since nothing is impossible in dreams. I would say it'd be easier to create a new DC every dream and gradually work towards bringing in the same DC all the time. What might help, if you do wish to bring in a constant DC is to visualize them while awake and keep a little journal about them, that way they're a more constant character in your dream life.

Good luck and happy dreaming! ^^

I jumped out of a window once while I was attempting to fly. I proceeded to fall on my face. I can't say for sure that I "died", but everything went black and I had a false awakening. I sat up in bed and was pissed that I had ended my lucid dream, only then I realized I was still dreaming. Fun stuff. I didn't attempt a jump like that again for quite a while.
