      Help me Rekindle my enthusiasm?

I've been quite sad as of late. When I heard about LDing about half a year ago I was very excited about the possibilities, and I jumped straight in to DILD.

However now my recall has dropped down to a fragment or even nothing each day-much worse than when I even started a dream journal. I don't have a natural affinity fr dreaming, unlike my sister. When I do become lucid it doesn't feel very real and I start to find reality checking a chore. I tried WILD a while ago, but now keep putting it off.

I just don't feel like going on anymore- I want to be able to enjoy my dreams and LD like many other members on here, but no matter how hard I try, or how long, I just can't seem to do it!

Please help me rekindle my enthusiasm, or give me tips. Thanks.

Had the same problem, actually.. I try to enjoy the self-awareness & meditation techniques and not consider them just a way of getting lucid. A good idea is to take a break off reality checking for a day.. or watch an inspiring film, or read a book that has something to do with LDing. (I'd recommend Waking Life if you haven't seen it)

I don't even really remember to RC anymore much...it's practically taking te whole day off RCing already!...any tips for reminding?
My main focus for the moment is recall- it's decreased significantly, it's very annoying.

There's really not much anyone can do for you if you're not willing to be enthusiastic about lucid dreaming and put the effort in; it's a personal thing. Record dreams as soon as you can. Practice the techniques. Be persistent.

Taking a break and not worrying about it for a little while might be a good idea. Perhaps you could pick two to three days out of your week that you will try a certain technique, and the rest of the week not worry about LDing?

I'll tell you what keeps me going lucid dreaming sometimes. I think about all the other lucid dreamers out there who will have a lucid dream tonight, and how I hope to be one of them (there will be quite a few who succeed in getting lucid tonight). I don't know but it feels good to have a sense of belonging with fellow lucid dreamers, like I'm not alone on this, this is something other people would like, and I'm going to acheive it too.

If you want to fix your recall, when you wake up, make sure your staying in the position you woke up in, and just jot down key words on a peice of paper by your bed side (don't even need to look at what your writting).

If you want your dreams to feel more real, you have to focus on them well your in them. Don't think about how crappy the dream is, or how foggy it seems, really try to focus hard on what your seeing around you. I get this moment where I feel like the objects around me pop out like a pop up book or something, and my dream body feels very at one with the envirnment. You can get the feeling in real life too, if you focus on your surroundings hard enough, it's quite the feeling, but it takes focus. A quick way to do it would be to look at your hands, since they are so close, and they tend to have lots of detail in dreams if you really look.

I think perhaps you're having what they call a recall slump. It's basically this annoying thing that happens to you where (sometimes explain-ably, sometimes not) you cannot recall dreams as well as before. Follow the advice in the other posts for how to better handle one, or just wait for the slump to blow over.

But if you want to boost enthusiasm for Lucid dreaming, I recommend making a list of exciting things that you want to do in dreams. Just stop and think of all the amazing things you can do and places you can go in a dream. Or you can read though others dream journals on the site. After some digging, you should come across one that you enjoy reading and can inspire you to want to have the same sort of experiences.

Hey! I made a guide a WILD back you can view here. I hope it can help get you more motivated to work on your recall and lucid dream. Best of luck.

      Aw thanks everyone
@evolve it's not like I'm not willing to put the effort in, it's just that I'm in a slump, when I do get lucid I wake up right away and I'm at my lowest point yet, and I feel drained and not sure where to go.

I actually watched Waking life, and tried some awareness exercises and last night I realised I was dreaming because I was in school, and here it's Easter holidays for two weeks. Even though I woke up straight after, it's progress.

Thanks LucidDreamGod. I have actually had a few lucids where I have stopped to focus on my surroundings, and although I didn't actually manage to do anything exciting in my dream it was a great experience. I'll try your method next time I am lucid, and see how it goes from there!
I guess I'l be a little more relaxed about it, and I'll read through some dream journals Thanks for all the help

Also something I just remembered, since I've been having trouble with dream stabilization as well. A good way to make your dream body feel anchored to the dream is to look at your feet, I've yet to try it in awhile (just remembered it this morning), but I remembered it really helped me in the past, and I'm going to try it the next time I go lucid.

Thanks... Wow, if your hands look so much different in dreams, what about bare feet?

Why are you in a slump? Just because of no recall and no lucids? Or you don't have lucids because of you being in a slump for something else? Once you figure out, what's making you feel that way, you can start finding solutions. Make a list of things that bother you and try to rationalize, wheter it really is an issue and make a plan on fixing them.

Recall fluctuates for everybody, often for no apparent reason. I have many lucids that are short, with little awareness, minimal or no control, can't stabilize them, ... But I can get over it, because I'm still just learning and I know that tomorrow will be better.
      Happy dreams

      This.
Also, read dream journals and day dream (try and be aware when you day dream as well). If you're a reader, gamer or love fantasy movies, consider going through the protagonist's experiences and/or with a twist. Dreams are excellent things and always seem to manage to surprise us in one way or another.

I can actually have about 2 lucids a week if I put my mind to it, but I just wake up soon after and don't really remember it. My lucids don't seem very lucid, if yo know what I mean

It sounds from this that you certainly have the ability to do well. Sometimes I think it's good going if you get one lucid a week with average effort. (In my case, less!)
I always try to salvage something positive from my experiences no matter how poor they are, as I know there is only one way, and that is up.
Sure I've had the vast majority of very poor (1-2 sec) semi-lucids, or lucids with no control, but you expect this, and it is worth it when you get a real 'cracker' of a dream with real lucid clarity and control where you know about it.

From your threads Amandaceline, it seems from what you have said that quality and recall seem to be the issue here.
The one thing you could try when you gain lucidity but feel the dream is still hazy is to say, or command that you get a 'clearer' less foggy dream by saying out loud "Clarity Now!" (Not too emotional however as you might wake up!)
I tried something similar to this when I couldn't 'see' properly in a (lucid) dream by asking for a pair of 'dream goggles' after reading one of the tips / threads here on Dreamviews. Sure enough I got a pair and they worked a treat.
It is easy to see LD as just LD per se. However it can more than that, like a journey of self, etc.
I think there isn't anybody who has not had difficulty with the lucid experience. This makes it all the more challenging, and fun.

I use the WBTB technique, early morning, as this is when I can remember my dreams best. Hence have a better chance of noticing that I'm dreaming.

Whatever your technique I hope you get back into it - Good luck!

I think it might really help to take a good long break and don't even think about it for a while. Just come back to it later after maybe about a week or so.

Thanks for all the tips. I've been laying off the reality checking and haven't focused much on LDing, and although I haven't had any lucids, by dream recall is slowly increasing again
