      Painful false awakenings

So, I didn’t have anything against false awakenings before, I even liked them, because it was an easy way to become lucid. About a month ago my attitude changed. I had a lucid nightmare with no dream control, so I woke myself up by closing my eyes. That caused a chain of about 10 or so false awakenings.

Each of them featured creepy SP noises and someone grabbing and clawing my shoulders. I couldn’t do anything because I almost couldn’t move, but it wasn’t SP for sure, because in the very beginning of each one I raised my hand and did a nose plug RC. I couldn’t do anything because I was dead tired. I would slightly lift my body and then fall back on the bed, because I had no energy at all.

So from that night all of my FAs are like that – I have no power to change anything, sometimes it’s even hard to keep my eyes open. At first I was just creeped out, but I knew it was a dream, so I would just wait for it to end. When I got used to it being freaky and unpleasant, it got worse – now it’s seriously painful.

Today I got to bed really tired (I know this one was probably due to the fact that I was just exhausted) and it happened again. Woke up, did nose RC - FA, then saw this ugly thing sitting near my face, I remembered reading about the old hag hallucinations, so I stayed comparatively calm, I tried to get up – no such luck, again no energy at all. Then it jumped on my face and started tearing it apart, scratching, biting and at the same time hitting with electricity – that was extremely painful. And also it kept switching between this “old hag” and my cat, so I thought that my cat might have actually attacked me in sleep. Then I woke up for real and of course there was no cat around. After I fall asleep again it happened two more times, with different things attacking me, painful as hell.

Okay, I know I have problems with expressing my thoughts short and to the point, but did you have anything like this? And if you did - is there any way to prevent/fight it except for not going to bed tired, that’s kind of inevitable.
I'm absolutely sure it was not SP, I had a few before and it was completely different.

I can't tell if I'm having false awakenings or not. Like just last night I had a lucid that lasted about 1 minute. I totally forgot about using verbal commands to increase clarity, which I've found very effective before, so I only rubbed my hands and back. Anyway...

When I genuinly woke up this morning, I remember actually going to the Dream Views website to update my LD count from 3 to 4. I didn't remember actually waking up and going to my computer. My guess is that I just woke up from the lucid, and in a matter of seconds went back to sleep for another dream, remembering to update my LD count.

Or, who knows? I could've forgotten some important detail. I almost forgot I HAD a LD last night. It's amazing what you can forget if your Dream Recall isn't as great as it should be.

That sounds awful. I too are sometimes out of energy in FAs, but I've never felt pain. I'm not sure if it works, I might have used this once during a FA, but have you tried rolling out of the bed? I somehow have the feeling I've done that. Not sure about it though. You could also try waking yourself up immediately you realize it's a dream.

Thank you, I'll definately try this if it happens again (hope it doesn't). I haven't even thought of rolling out, but I guess it may work since I have a slight bit of energy in the beginning and I always "waste it" on efforts to sit up in the bed (which I do and then fall back again). So hopefully it'll help somehow...

I suppose some sort of pain suppressing medicine before bed might help, but I guess you wouldn't be able to use it every day.
Thanks for suggestion, but I don't think it'll help because the problem is not really in the body, so I probably need some sort of a "mind tool" to deal with it.

I think that the SP was leaking through in these false awakenings, i think this is also the cause for, legs dont work nightmares.
You mean it might have been influenced by SP somehow?

You may not have been dreaming at all. That may have legitimately been SP with open eyes. I've done it before. Some scary shit. Most terrifying (and fun. imagine that) and memorable experience of my life. Regardless of how ridiculously scared I was... it was a great experience.
I see what you mean, it sounds like SP and the experience is almost the same - you see/hear/feel scary things and you can't do anythings about it. But if in SP you can't do anything because you're paralized (I feel it as if I was put in a metal case of a shape of my body, which keeps every sell on its place and when I try to move I "hit" the walls of this case), whereas during this FAs I can't move because I have almost no energy. I know it's not SP, because I did RC (I wouldn't be able to raise my hand if I was paralized) and that last time I lifted my body to sit up, but it was too hard to keep it that way so I fell back. And also I tried to get this thing off my face with both hands - I lifted hads to it, touched it, but I couldn't grip it, because fingers were too weak. Weird stuff

Strange. Some people report accounts of being attacked and feeling pain in their dreams via devils/demons/hellish creatures and not being able to do anything about it. In rare cases these people have been found to die in their sleep, with signs of physical struggle in their bed due to thrashing at an invisible attacker.

I hope this doesn't freak you out.

I only ever had seven FAs in a row, and by the last one I was sobbing because I couldn't wake up, and when I did, I had actually been crying. My pillow was dead wet.

Try not doing an RC, cause then you might think you're actually awake and your mind won't create the icky monster attacky thingy.

I think you may be right - as if after realizing it's FA I think - now this and this usually happen and it happens.

      hi MischiefManaged ,
well ive had similar FA's like urs ,
like i have FA and i am in SP and i hear voices behind me or someone touching me etc.. i just try to fight back not to be afraid cus i know i am dreaming and its a dream..

next time u get FA , dont be afraid .. anything u see even monkey even skeleton even robot even anything tries to make u afraid .. just make him shut up and leave say "Go away now ! punch it whatever.. just dont let it make u scaried thats it , ur just dreaming ;D

if u can't move just ignore what u see or what u hear and let the dream go ...

seriously dont be scared i had similar issues in my dreams too .. but they gone now cus i am more positive about my dreams
I should learn positive thinking, my negativity probably cause it as well. Thank you, Karlitaki

I was about to say that maybe once you got better at training yourself to dream whatever, you could change it. But I'm still stumbling on the idea this is being caused by paralysis >.<

Hopefully this kind of thing wears off, this would make me weary of going to bed every night : /
I hope so For now because it's so similar to SP, makes sense to treat it the same.
