I'm going for a tonsillectomy in early September. If anyone's had one done, what can I expect? I know about possible bleeding and a sore throat, but what about the other stuff - could my voice permanently be altered? And what are the chances of vocal chords being damaged (I've heard it happens)?

I'm not scared for the surgery, other than the intubation. I don't want that mega-sized metal thing and tube shoved down my throat.

Anyways, if you guys have any tips or heads-ups, I'd appreciate it.
