      Work Out Music

      What's playing while you exercise?
I'm looking for some music of varying lengths (playing time) and tempo.

      Suggestions?

Zeppelin, Styx, Pink Floyd are great for running. Metallica, Meat Loaf, Springsteen are great for lifting. Billy Joel, Beatles, Dylan are great for stretching.

Just take the heavy stuff from the genre of music you like. The stuff with heavy bass and beats to get you hyped up and ready to go

You can also get music that's been designed for workouts. I'm sure there are albums out there, maybe you should search on iTunes.

To me crafting a playlist for my runs is an art of the highest form that I've spent years perfecting. I make a ritual of it. Most people load up some good songs and put them on random, and occasionally add/subtract content. Not me. The order of the songs matters.

That being said, here's a few tracks that have held up nicely against my changing tastes.
The Killers - When You Were Young
Type O Negative - Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young cover)
Plastic Bertrand - Ça Plane Pour Moi
MGMT - ,yeah anything MGMT is good for running (I say running but I reckon you can translate me to any type of workout)
      Flogging Molly - yep, anything.

...and here's some paradoxical items that can have a powerful effect. Sometimes I run and get into a more trance-like state and really slow low-energy music can get me through a couple miles at least.
      Ulrich Schnauss - Molfsee
      Omnimotion - Nothingness

It gets me pretty excited every time, I work out with that going in the background all the time.
