Talk me out of WoW please...

Okay, so I had WoW about a year or two ago, and had way too much fun/no fun. It was a ton of fun, but ultimately slow and, well, slow. Well, maybe that is because I literally created (and deleted) dozens and dozens of low level characters, my main Mage (Aydenn) is about 38 or so.

It is just SO TIME CONSUMING. I have work to finish and a life to have! I'm not saying it will interfere with my ability to get things done, only to eat the precious little (yet sizable amount) of free time I have. I can plan around raids and the like, but in general, this game needs you there every day. Guilds, for example: The large ones usually are falling apart and are more loose collections of people. The small ones (the ones I prefer) usually have hardcore playtimes, say, almost every afternoon you'll be logging on.

My main problem is that if I'm into something, I am INTO it. If I play Halo, (which I do) I have to be the best. I have to know where all the weapons are, the best tactics, maps, and enjoy hardcore playgroups. I still play for fun, and enjoy every game win or lose, but I have to make that effort. I have to be on top of all the new releases and news. Now, with WoW, there is SO MUCH CONTENT that it blows me away. I have to literally MINE through expansion packs/content to get to "where it's at." Every "new" dungeon for me has been done by everyone else a zillion times (Blackwing lair for example) and I am HARD pressed to get a raid together, let alone be getting it together/playing the raid/organizing and planning future raids, not that I can't, just that it SUCKS my life from my soul like a plunger in a toilet. My fear is the content is piling up on me and I am seriously, seriously missing out. And I have the equivalent of 50 million miles of leveling/content in general ahead of me and the landscape is a barren wasteland since all the people are in Draenor, and when I get there, the are (going to be) in Northrend soon, and when I get THERE, it will all be OLD again, and I MISSED OUT on the excitement and discovery. I love the Undercity, for example. But knowing how OLD it is to everyone else and (presently) people-less makes me nauseous.

So I really want to play, to get some of that old Elwynn magic again, and (eventually) rejoin civilization wherever they will be when I catch up, but to do so will involve flaying my soul. Help?

WoW is much better than cocaine or heroin. And cheaper too.

But really, the choice is between WoW and real life activities. Seems like a pretty easy choice to me. But we both know you're gonna choose WoW no matter what anyone says.

Look, I played WoW for two and a half years. How was I ever able to stop? After a while, watching all those parkour videos on youtubue gets to you. It ended up with me saying "Geeze, I really want to do that.." So I did. I started going to the gymnastics center on Teusdays to learn flips and rolls and spins, I started running at the park, I'd swim a little farther out at the beach than previously, and hike mile after mile of winding mountain trail. Generally speaking, I got in shape, and loved the benefits of that so much more that I dropped WoW all together. You can level a virtual character in a video game, or you can level yourself in real life. If you want to quit, there's nothing better to do, in my opinion, than to find something else that allows you to interract with your realworld environment, and hopefully give you some other real world skill.

Have you ever wanted to learn to do something new? Go do that, right now. While you still have a soul left.

      SAVE YOURSELF

I left WOW to focus on my artwork and I can't even look back now

where as before the idea of not gaming for just a few days was painful, I'm finding I have sooooooo much time in the day to really do more important things.

and while I understand for some people WOW is a social thing for them, I find my friends TALK MORE, or at least talk about more meaningful things outside of WOW. so I try to pry them away from it as much as possible as well

it is a fun game. but if you really need to stop playing WOW, or if you are too obsessive to play in smaller amounts-- but need a game fix - go to yahoo. play some casual games here and there. it'll help curve the appetite for gaming.

Purchase Half-Life and download the mod called Natural Selection.

It's really meant for serious gamers...so if you want seriousness, go play that.

I happen to be conditioning for Parkour right now! I almost have landings down and can move onto rolls, and then go on to vaults and run-ups. Actually, it wasn't YouTube that inspired me, as amazing as they are, it was actually Altair that sparked my interest...

Anyway, as to WoW, contrary to seemingly popular belief you ARE swaying me in disfavor of WoW...

well the thing is that you have to balance between the two. If you really want to get out of wow set up a schedule between work, friends, family and Wow. Slowly cutting Wow out of the schedule. Also try thinking what else you can do with that $15 a month.

Think about it like this. WoW is so retarded people actually believe the word "train" originates from it.

Just play halo, it's a decently awesome game, and it takes far less time. When you stop playing, you really stopped playing. There isn't a virtual world still running wherein you can lag behind / still have to do stuff.

That, and owning people in shooters is far more fun then by clicking on them once in 3rd person perspective.

If you keep playing WoW, this is going to happen to you.

You'll be playing the part of the hippo, and the lions will be played by.. lions.

      Want to keep playing?

You're just going to have to realise that it's sad you're playing so much and it costs alot. Then you'll realise "Hey this is crap, I need to get out more."

Then from that day on, you'll leave it behind!
