It's been more than a year now since skyrim has been released and what do you guys think of it? |

More seriously though, check out this demo for the Radiant AI. The demo is for Oblivion. |
|
If I had known about that I doubt I would have enjoyed oblivion as much as I did! The only things characters in oblivion could do was sleep or idly stand around and practise marksman skill every now and then. |

Love All Elder Scrolls, but I said it before, its been dumbed down severely. They got Rid of so much, and hardly added anything of great value. Makes me sad that they got rid of this to appeal to a more mass audience. |

" I couldn't stand her at first, But then I loved her so bad It Hurt "
Because Skyrim was dumbed down so much it opened it to alot more gamers, most the people that I over hear talking about Skyrim I'll ask them about Morrowind, and 4/5 they won't even know what it is, in fact I've had people get mad at me and tell me that Skyrim is the first game.... which means they didn't even play Oblivion. |

I know that feel alright |

I played both Oblivion and Skyrim (haven't completed the main quests in either of them though since I get distracted too easily) but the NPCs are kind of a downside. I usually stealth and even though started out as funny when I shoot someone with an arrow and they go "is anyone there?" it's not really realistic. Still very nice to explore and I still enjoy it since I usually insert my own dialogue with NPCs anyway. I do like that Bethesda does allow people to mess around with the games (a lot of companies freak out when games get modified) but sometimes if feel that those modders are kind of compensating for various weakness so Bethesda does nothing. For example I recently got an awesome deal on a 3d gaming laptop and went to play skyrim and bam the 3d sucks. Apparently an update made it so the 3d shadowing is horrible in skyrim and it has been like that for quite a while. A modder was able to fix it so the 3d is awesome but Bethesda still haven't fixed it themselves which isn't really good because the mod is actually a bit of a pain to implement (it's not in steam workshop so you can't just download it you have to play around with the files which I can see some people are unwilling to do). I think it might be more due to the fact that I heard they didn't want Skyrim played in 3d so that's why they don't care about fixing it, but still. |

"There are two types of people in this world, people who think there are two types of people, and people who don't."
I understand, Personally I wish they would have just added more immersive gameplay elements, sure they are aiming at 14 year olds who only want to hack and slash but some simple features like a more expensive price pack and better levelled lists would have only taken them a day or two to make when a whole team is working on it. |
|
I found your problem. |

I love bethesda games, Anyways anyone sign up for the Elder Scrolls Online Beta? |

I just got Morrowind a little while ago. Anyone got any protips? |
|
Not so much pro tips as just general things to look out for. |

Actually, even in skyrim and oblivion, roleplaying improves the gaming experience thousandfold. At first, I played Skyrim like "FAST RUN!! Collect everything kill everyone!!!" ... Well, the story kinda kept me going, but I could never force myself to do another playthrough with another character, cos there is really no difference. But then I tried a different approach, downloaded a ton of mods (G.E.M.S.), set difficulty to master and decided to try not to become a demigod as fast as possible, but just earn everything the hard way and make everything a real challenge (Oh the beautiful times of Gothic...). I don't go for the best char build possible, just try and learn different things. Some archery perks, then a few of destruction, Two handed, whatever interests me at the time and how I thing the character could develop. I must say it is better than the first playthrough BY FAR. (Mods randomly shutting down my PC is another thing, though... ) |

I totally agree, I meant that there is no way not to roleplay in morrowind, you can try but you will ultimately fail, while the possibility to just skip it all is there in oblivion and skyrim. I can't even play unmodded skyrim because I earn money to fast, I usually instal a tonne of mods and then write up a background story for myself. I'm playing through fallout with the mod fallout wanderers edition, it is really epic and makes the game alot harder, I'm almost 5 hours into the game and I still haven't found a bed I can pay for. |

Yeah, it's amazing when you have to walk everywhere, really explore, no fast travel at all. Also I have mods that force me to eat, drink, bathe, rest, spend actual time reading, etc. I never loot any equipment from corpses, I either forge or buy everything. Often I'm having a hard time even to get something to eat and not starve to death. Highest amount of gold I had so far was like 800, but mostly I barely have 100 septims or so. I've installed a mod that removes the "essential" characters, so everyone is mortal. So when I'm doing a quest and some of the key characters die - tough luck then. Some would consider it game breaking, but for me it actually makes the game a lot better. Just like it was in Morrowind. I've also added mods like adventurers and travellers, so the world truly feels alive when you keep meeting random people wandering outside the cities. It's a completely different experience. Sad thing is that I really liked the "Scenic Carriages" mod, which is now broken and the creator abandoned it.. |

I could not agree with you more, I've already started a new character because I didn't like how I was progressing in the game. One thing I love about TES games is that you always start off as a prisoner without a detailed explanation of why; it's really half the fun to make up your own story about your character's life and behave how you feel the character actually would. That's why I was never able to get into the newer Fallout games (3 and New Vegas); they give too much information about who the lead character is and what his motives are. Those are the kinds of things I like to create for myself! |

Well, sometimes it is not a bad thing. Imagine Final Fantasy VII or Planescape Torment without the backstory. Another thing is when the story is shallow - like the aforementioned Fallout. But even being able to play a game the way you want instead of having to follow the predesigned path all the time shows how great the game is |

Funny you mention final fantasy because what made 7 and 8 so good for me is that while the story is largely made up so much is still left to the imagination and I didn't really have that with the newer ff's. Personally I like fallout because the back story is essential to the main quest but determines very little about your character, there is still a lot of space to mess around with like how the vault has changed you ie. Hell even in ff8 I managed to make like three different personalities for squall and that says something because he is probably the most sulky emo teenager game history has ever seen. |
