In the second stage (during wbtb after first half of the night (4,5 hours)) there are also substances and activities that help you prolong REM phases. For example caffeine, nicotine, sulbutiamine, (galantamine), long wbtb, whatever makes you more awake... The trick is fall back to sleep which can be sometimes difficult for many people. But if you make it, you are going to have epic long vivid dreams and if you are experiences lucid dreamer they will be lucid without any induction technique. (atleast for me)
