How To Calm Down and Stop Feeling Rushed?

      Hi everyone,
i don't think i'm alone with this feeling of frenzy during an LD, an urge to do as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.
It usually hampers my thinking, reasoning and creativity too, and when it gets too much i usually slip out of lucidity (actually, that's rare, i usually just wake up or have a false awakening!).
What are some ways to manage time and pace in an LD, so you can take things at your own rate?
Would i be right in thinking that overactive thoughts in a dream state will stimulate overactivity in the waking state, which might lead to awakenings and loss of lucidity?
How can you just take things at a desired, and prolonged, pace?

I always go into my lucids with a goal in mind. A to-do list. When I first started I would always do random things that sort of made me lose control or make things become murky. I tend not to focus on time or pacing. If I start to wake up then I'll just DEILD chain as long as I can.

Like ENIGMA said, planning helps a lot. Not only it helps you focusing, but it also prevents you from getting distracted from things happening in the dream, like dream characters interacting with you. Other things that help is taking your time...really, don't worry about the dream ending, because it's not like you can do anything about it anyway. If it ends, you can DEILD or just try again. Once in a while during each lucid I stop and repeat my vividness/stabilization exercises, which makes me less anxious and more aware.

It's mostly a question of practice, so try to apply these principles every time until you get the hang of it

      Yo.
What ENlGMA says about todo list is nice way of managing goals, why think about them in lucid when one can plan them ahead, i also suggest typing/writing more important goals right before going to sleep and?or using them as mantra to help with recall of waking life in dream.
And if you have serious trouble remembering to stay calm, i suggest to use a mantra while falling asleep, like "When i'll become aware of dream i'll stay calm", and meditation also helps with that from what i know, but generally that 'frenzy' usually just goes away with practice.

Thanks for the great advice people! I wrote up a list and edited my mantra accordingly!

I have been wondering more specifically, though, if there was any way to simply channel all your focus into one thing. Sort of mediative, channeling all your energy into one specific, small thign. For example, my goal over the past few LDs have been to conjure a ball within my hand, but i never try it more than one time before moving on. Are there any techniques that could let me sit in an empty room, and simply devote all my energy into mastering this for the duration of the dream?
Could the application of real-world meditative techniques prove effective for the issues raised in this thread?

Wow guys, thanks a lot, using the adapted mantra and making a mental list of goals (i lost the list i wrote!) and reading through similar threads, including the clarity tutorial here, i managed to have the longest, most vivid and clear lucid i have ever had this morning. Bear in mind i haven't had a whole load and all of them were similar to the kind of thing i described in the first post, this was quite a weird experience. All throughout the dream i was thinking "wow, i can't believe this is actually happening!", haha but i didn't let it take over me as to wake me up.

I was not unlike my regular self in terms of thought process and mental clarity, to the point where i stopped thinking about my goals list (they were mostly to remain calm and clear anyway, and the above post which i'll get to) and had free reign. I was just basking in the enjoyment of having self control! I said i wanted to practice the above, and i did not feel rushed to do something more interesting. I mean, i didn't get round to doing it as i was on my way to find a quiet room and distracted, but only in way that i would get distracted in real life.

Also, i wrote here that i never do anything creative or "dream-like", and i've never exerted direct influence onto a dream but due to being calm and thoughtful i had my first "powerful" experiences - i became lucid after i got transported into space (stuff like this never happens, i wonder what caused this lol) and the continents of the earth mixed like playdough. I became panicked, then lucid and then i literally molded the earth back to normal, and ascended down. Even in the dream i couldn't believe i did that haha. The second time i exerted control was towards the end of the dream i knew it was coming to an end and, as described above, all i did was walk around the environment trying to ground myself as much as possible, so i went for broke and literally told the rain to start and stop. And it listened!

I know some might think a lot of the above isn't directly related to the topic, and i should post this somewhere else, but i think it is - all those happened after takign advice from this thread and making my main, and pretty much only, goal to calm down and stop feeling rushed.

Plus i was really chuffed and just wanted to share! I do love this community.
