Dreams related to ancestors

In Assassins Creed, scientists used a device the animus so the main character could relive events of his descendants in a dreamlike environment. I remember seeing something on a talk show involving people who kept having weird dreams that couldn't possible fit there lives...as if it was something from the past. They got DNA tests, and it revealed that they could have been having dreams linked to someone from that persons ancestry. Has anyone else heard about this? And are there any helpful links or terms that I can use to further research?

What I've heard before, is that if you wanted to a super computer to store information across the ages, the best super computer is DNA. That through DNA, we can access the memories and information of all the life forms and beings that came before us. An alternative explanation to past life regressions its also a connection between our coiled DNA, and the coiled kundalini. when, when awakened...you remember things I couldn't really tell you any scientific studies to look at though. But the idea of the memories of our past within DNA, as far as I can tell, might be an idea going as far back as the late 70's. It's one of the themes in my favorite mangas, AKIRA (which conceptually started in the late 70's). The author seemed obsessed with with the works of Russian Scientists. So maybe the idea of memories within our DNA, comes from Russian experiments? Which wouldn't be surprising since the Russians seem to be the most advanced in the psychic phenomenon. Or at least, they were some of the first ones to take the metaphysical seriously.
