Many times now I have sat down or lain somewhere comfortable and listened to awesome music that is just so sweet - until i realize that i have no headphones on and my laptop is not playing any music by which the tunes disappear from my mind.
As I am able to visualize with much greater power after waking up from a dream, i can also "audiolize" much better, meaning that i can fabricate sounds that my brain perceives as real sound waves traveling to my eardrums.
Lately i have been developing this ability and so far i am able to play songs in my head about 5 minutes after waking up that my brain perceives as "real" and of course there are the times when in the middle of the day i startle myself by realizing that i am not listening to any music, when the sounds i was listening to were so bloody vivid.
Has anyone ever experienced this or has any tips concerning my quest to free myself of my mp3 player?

I don't know if this got something to do with your experience, but many times after I wake up I sing one of my favourite song in my mind. One day it's one song, next day another. I always thought after sleep I should have clear mind, so I don't understand why I got song on my mind immediately.

Maybe I'll try to focus on it more after I wake up and see (hear) if it will be that vivid.

P.S.: I remember some dreams where my fav song was playing in the background (in the pub) and I swear it was exactly the same as real, every tone, every instrument. You gotta have it somewhere deep in your mind "recorded".

sometimes when i awake from sleep i have music stuck in my head, and it is realistic to the point where i'd think the music was comming from speakers/instruments.

well actually i've been wanting to free myself from any type of music device also. like, basically i think its repetition, the more you listen to something the more it gets memorized by your brain/unconscoius/whatever. and i have several pieces of music that i can just start listening in my mind. anyway, i think its the repetition.

That is very interesting. I know sometimes I can "sing a song" to myself in my head and it can sound very much like the song and can get pretty realistic. I can do that pretty well with art too. I can often see a beautiful portrait, picture, painting, drawing, etc. in my head. I think what makes someone a great artist is their ability to accurately create a "physical manifestation" of the masterpiece within their minds.

I could swear that all the music i have listened to in my dreams is composed by my subconscious. My favourite is orchestral music and i don't remember ever having listened to those pieces before in waking life. They were very beautiful.
In the past i've also experienced a song stuck in my head after waking up - usually they are really weird ones that i don't like at all

I am practically convinced that for our subconscious mind it takes only 1 listening to reproduce the entire thing from scratch.

Can you write music or play an instrument? I'd like to hear your 'awesome... sweet music.'
I've always got a song in my head - sometimes the same one for weeks on end. It used to drive me to distraction until I figured a way to stop it. But to have original music - you are lucky!

i do not kid myself that this could actually be music that i have heard and do not consciously remember, but still it freaks me out when my dream has its own soundtrack that i truly don't remember from anywhere.
I do not play any instrument and am not particularly interested in music on a more-than-just-listening level although one time when i had a false awakening i could first manifest by pressing certain points on my ear a guitar, a violin solo accompanied by a symphonic orchestra and to top it all a cool-sounding organ.
Maybe I have a thing with music.

Anomanderis, I know what you are talking about. I get this sometimes too - usually just before falling asleep, probably during HI. I hear the songs in my head just like it was coming out of a radio or something. And what's weirder is that I hear the exact words of the song, which I couldn't recite even if I wanted to normally. Maybe the lyrics are imprinted somewhere in my subconscious and I can only remember them when I'm between sleeping and waking.

And like Nerte, I will also wake up in the morning with some random song in my head. Often times it's a song I haven't heard in ages. I'm not sure if there's any rhyme or reason to this, but I find it strange that these weird, random songs are in my head as soon as I open my eyes in the morning.

I get something similar to his, except I know that its in my head. It happens whenever I want silence when I'm trying to sleep- some random song just starts "playing", lyrics and all. Sometimes it isn't fully complete (i.e I don't know the song too well)

I've had this particular experience many times; usually during my early morning meditation, after I tranced. Of course, I usually chalk it up with the rest of the hallucinatory phenomena, although some auditory hallucinations are extremely artistic in nature, almost as if they could be real music coming from speakers or instruments by my head. It's a coincidence to see a topic about this phenomenon here, as I was just thinking about it earlier this week; while I was listening to my pre-meditation playlist, I began to wonder whether or not I could control these manifestations to the point where I could listen to a song of my choice. I've been working on manifesting "Eruption" by Van Halen, to no avail, as of yet.

The whole world screams my name,
But I won&#39;t play their game.

I just want to dream well.</div>

First of, it isn&#39;t coincidence that you found this topic and it wasn&#39;t coincidence that you talked about coincidence since today i got really freaked out by a series of "coincidences" and i have been noticing these weird things falling together since i became more aware of myself and my surroundings.
Has anybody else had these musical interludes during the day? I think that as I had these while it was still light outside, i was in a sort of trance or smth.

Hey guys, interesting topic here. Personally I have always been able to play music in my head. I can make up my own songs or listen to songs by other people. I can have a whole orchestra, a rock band playing, whatever. I always thought it was something everyone could do until me & my mum were talking about it one day & she said shes always been able to too but most other people can&#39;t.

I only get songs that ive already heard stuck in my head, but this isnt what the topic is about is it? in terms of dreaming though, if there is a song stuck in my head when I fall asleep, it continues when I wake up - even though I dont remember the song in my dream.

      Thumbs down

I&#39;ve had this before, quiet a few times, while awake. It was about 2 hours after I listened to my Friend&#39;s hardcore Mix, and it would only happen if I had my headphones on and I could hear the low frequency. Which it wasn&#39;t playing at all, I just heard it, but theres something else. Over the years I&#39;ve taught myself to play music in my head, even during the day and today I was fooling around with it. I put one song in my head and used it as my own "Theme Song" for the day. It helps me relax and concertrating is much much easier when I use this method.

      So remember, its not bad to hear music in your head It can help you out throughout the day if you let it go on and on&#33;

my theory is this. the subconsious can remember stuff almost perfectly. if we had direct control over our brains and sub consiouss we could easily display omages and sounds as if they were as real as reality. so when is the time when you have most control/access to your subconiouss? when our asleep&#33; no wonder in dreams we can hear and see things a though they were real, our subconsiouss is an amazing thing, it remembers things so well. so when you wake up your still sort of &#39;with&#39; your sub thus having access to much more vivid memories.

if this is out of line mods delete this part of my post. but LSD &#39;trips&#39; are pretty much direct access with your subconsiouss. any hidden feelings/underlying problems hidden away in your subconsiouss are revealed while on LSD. IMO one of the best accesses to the sub. when someone who isnt me did LSD they could control what they hear. they could easily say a word n their head and hear it out loud crystal clear. they culd think of a song they had heard recently and hear it again perfectly. it was no different to sound of reality. i could control everything i heard. audi hallucinations which i CHOSE to hear were as real as sounds of reality. pretty amazing. this just backs up my theory about the subconsiouss. it can remember things perfectly.

That&#39;s pretty interesting about the LSD, I personally wouldn&#39;t want to try a drug like that though, it&#39;s way too heavy for me.

Anyways, I don&#39;t need drugs to play music in my head, I can do that anyway.

You have a very active audio imagination.

I get that feeling aswell sometimes.. but never unintentionally and it isnt that real to me. I sometimes think of some song that i really like and i hear it aswell, as if it was really playing. But it is always a bit faint, like listening to a pocket radio that is 20m away.

This is completely normal, but everyone is different and I would think very few are so gifted as you are.

Once me and my friend were high on cannabis and we started listening to my mp3 player - both from one earphone. As you might know music sounds really good when one is high, and we couldnt stay still. So the earphones fell out quite often. First few times my friend managed to locate the earphone and put it back in his ear, but once he mistook my scarf for the earphone and tried to put the end of my scarf in his ear, without noticing. For about 2 minutes he thought he was still listening to my mp3 player, but in fact he wasnt. he didnt notice the lack of music and continued playing air guitar and air drum the whole time... when he noticed that there was no music he was quite surprised.
Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.

It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is,

That&#39;s pretty funny, when you&#39;re stoned you can quite easily lose focus of something, but it&#39;s still interesting that he thought he was listening to the music. I actually believe that although pot is a downer, it can raise levels of creativity if in the right state of mind & can do wonders for your imagination. So the music probably roused his levels of creativity & helped his mind carry on the music, if that makes sense.

Yeah I always took it for granted that I could listen to music in head, i&#39;ve always been able to create music & listen to existing songs as clear as if it was playing on a cd or mp3 player or whatever. I never realised that alot of people couldn&#39;t do this until me & my mum talked about it one day.

It really is amazing what your mind can do, & I do think it&#39;s possible for anyone&#39;s brain to do this if they knew how.

i can play music in my head, sober, but i have to concentrate really hard to do it and i cant always remember the hole song. i much prefer real music as i can sit back and relax to it, but with in my head music i have to focus and its not as enjoyable having to concentrate to remember the song. when i was on LSD i could juct pick a song and listen to it. didnt have to concentrate, once the song started going it didnt stop unless i wanted it to and i cou;ld listen to it as if it were real. i still had heaps of audio hallucinations which i couldn control btw. in a lucid dream i can do the same by putting my ipod in and listening to music the exact same as i could in real life. obviously all the music in a dream is coming from my sub, but it doesnt sound any different and i dont have to concnetrate to keep it playing.

I always have a song in my head when I wake... and rarely one I WANT in my head. This morning it was the Stone&#39;s "Angie". I haven&#39;t heard that in ages, either.

The good times are when I have a song nobody else has done in my head and I can capture it - music or lyrics, or even bits that can be developed. That has been rare lately.

had another one of these experiences this night.
I was lying on my bed supine, when i noticed that there was music playing in my head. The quality was absolutely mind-blowing and the bass made my body reverberate with it When the song ended (can&#39;t remember the title anymore, but i recall recognizing it), i started playing another one.
The thing that was different this time was that I had complete control over the music - i could change volume, tracks, "equalizer" at will.
Too bad it was in a false awakening and not the waking reality.
