      Mindfulness cultivating Lucid Dreams

With the help of Mindfulness In Plain English, I've recently undertaken Vipassana meditation. My question is for longtime meditators and is quite simple, does the practice of mindfulness, through meditation, increase or supplement your ability to Lucid Dream?

It would seem to me to be so, but then again, I just started. But it appears that if used correctly it could be, by far and away, the best lucid dream induction technique that exists. Not to mention is effects on life in general...

Yes, meditation helps and compliments lucid dreaming.

You should read "Control your Dreams" by Jane Gackenbach and Jane Bosveld. I just finished reading it and as a beginning meditator was pleasantly surprised to discover the book talked much about the connections and similarities between lucid dreaming and meditation.

I won't go on too much because the book really says a lot, but apparently many buddhist monks are quite adept at lucid dreaming and consider it an important step in attaining enlightenment.

It will work provided the person's mind has the capacity to be mindfull and aware of the current environment he or she is in which in reality I find quite impossible to do. Being aware 24/7? I tried it..it caused sensory overload instead.....

there is a difference between 'being aware' and 'paying attention'. The latter is active and ultimately impossible permanently, as you discovered. The former is essentially passive.
Alan Watts likened it to the difference between focused and peripheral vision. You can't stare for long without feeling the strain, but you can take in stuff all day and be aware of it with peripheral vision.

I'm currently attempting the mindfulness approach to inducing lucid dreaming.

Oh, that means I am mindfull of reality checks and the possibility that I may be dreaming..makes sense... I use the idea/awareness of which checks to use to have lucid dreams but not really actually doing them.

I don't know that it helped me have more lucid dreams, but it definitely helped me in attaining more clearness in my dreams and helped my control as well.

It increases my ability to lucid dream immensely. I see a huge difference when I've been meditating and when I have not. Mindfulness is, for me, the number one key to lucid dreaming.

I have done both Mantra and Mindful meditation but I prefer guided and visual meditations. Both seem to help with not only falling asleep but lucid dreaming as well.

If you think about it, if you're more aware of your surroundings (real or imaginary) you're far more likely to notice your dream signs, or any other oddities that would alert you being in a dream.

I've read a lot of Mindfulness In Plain English, and I just recently bought a book titled 'Dream Yourself Awake' by B. Alan Wallace, which links lucid dreaming and tibetan dream yoga. I'm not far into it yet, but it strongly suggests meditation and awareness are the best things for helping lucidity.

What i do now is saying to myself : walking walking for instance : and i focus more on the action and less on the feelings - i wonder if this is affective also

i do just simple " mindfulness" which i guess is thervada way - didnt look into tibetian buddhism - is there some spefic practices which are usefull for LD -

Everyone who wants to add to the subject and help boost this therad should do so

Well I have tried meditation and ADA (All Day Awareness) and according to my experience they are both quite helpful. Not only to notice dream signs (which I usually fail to do..) ,but I also had some lucid dreams where I was just aware that it was a dream naturally just like I am aware of the sound of the buttons on my keyboard pressing down while I write this message just now ^^. It is like you only have to know that it is happening ,not even to interact with the fact that it is happening.

A very Buddhist way of thinking. Live in the now. Forget about yesterday. Have no concern about tomorrow. Life , Heaven and Hell are happening as you read this. Being conscious of the moment is the essence of awareness.
