      A WBTB-WILD-SSLD Experiment

I had an interesting WBTB-WILD experience last night. As an experiment, to keep my awareness awake while my body fell asleep, I did the SSLD cycle thing on a previous dream scene.

I visualized a past dream scene and then cycled my attention from the visual, to the aural, to the tactile of that scene.

After about ten minutes I heard a low frequency tone, and began having trouble holding on to the visualization. I realized I was going through SP and that another scene was trying to emerge. When I let go of the visualization, I fell into an extremely vivid lucid dream. It ran for about ten minutes, and I got to explore a magnificent cathedral with some DCs and do some other fun stuff.

I’ve never had a successful WILD that quickly before, but whether it was the result of the power of expectation, or my adapting the SSLD thing to WILD remains to be seen.

Might also have been the power of MOOD. For whatever reason, I was in a very peaceful state of mind at the WBTB.

Or maybe the SSLD just served as a distraction that took my attention off my body more efficiently than just letting it happen.

      Will try it again soon.

Very cool experience and induction method. The cathedral ld must have been awesome. Thx for sharing this and good luck with future experiments!

Exploring in LDs can lead to unexpected finds. In one hallway there was this great door, and when I opened it there was a huge, ornate, high-ceiling room, empty save an ancient movie projector on a pedestal. One room was devoted to a rummage sale, with the ladies of the village sitting behind card tables selling junk. Another room had tables covered with fancy deserts and snacks, according to a security guard "for the wedding."

In some LDs, I've felt I had to be very careful exercising my will, or I would awaken. This one seemed as stable as real life... like I could do anything and not wake up. At the same time, I wasn't inclined to do anything magical because the dream was quite interesting in its own right, and the DCs I was with seemed like old friends. But I did fly out a window at the end.

My overall experience is that WILD is trickier than DEILD, but is more likely to produce a very vivid and stable LD experience.

Chained it into another dream, but lost lucidity and ended up in an argument with my sister. Swore at her, and I felt bad about it when I woke up.

I can almost see the scene from your descriptions.

Yeah, those super vivid lds are amazing!

      Wow!!
      Huge Congratulation!!
That's a great idea - if you just before had a specific dream - and then take that dream-sensory in the SSILD - maybe that translates in some way over to the vividness of the LD.
Did you do normal SSILD WILDs before - with focussing on the actual real life inputs? How did that go?
And you said - at the point of HH/SP - you had to let loose of the visualizations - so they were not actually leading over into the LD, did I understand that correctly?
When did you make this attempt? In WBTB or just upon waking from a normal dream?
Sorry for the bombardment - wishing you good luck and many further successes - and I love the cathedral theme!

I saw this post in Sageous' WILD thread, well worth the write-up as a thread in its own right. I had some interesting experiences with SSILD just last night, extremely vivid hypnagogia, not with a strong intent to WILD, more to pass through as much of the stages of sleep as I could, consciously.

SSILD seems to bring sleep on rapidly while simultaneously giving your self-awareness an anchor and actually stimulating the imagery-generating parts of the brain.

      Hi Steph,
I have used the usual SSILD routine as a relaxation step prior to WILD attempts. The first time I tried it, I ended up in an FA. After that, it mostly caused me to fall into a deep and restful sleep.

And you said - at the point of HH/SP - you had to let loose of the visualizations - so they were not actually leading over into the LD, did I understand that correctly?
The visualization I chose was from an LD I had a few weeks ago where I was on snow covered terrain leading to a little town. The cathedral dream scene was from later in that same dream.

When did you make this attempt? In WBTB or just upon waking from a normal dream?
I woke up after 5 hours sleep, stayed up for 45 minutes and then went back to bed.

      Thanks for the good wishes!

      Niall

      Thank you!
Wasn't that FA this with opening the door to a supposed UPS person - and standing behind it was a bear?
I really loved to read that story as well!

So you didn't take the dream-sensory input from the dream directly before your attempt, but another LD - good that you mentioned that - I had misunderstood.
Of course it makes more sense like this - given that most non-LDs of mine don't offer up a wealth of sensory memory - if they have something strong - it's rather one quality only.
