Share your most simple golden advice on how to become Lucid in dreams!

This is my short advice for the chance to become lucid plain and simple!

      1. Go to bed maybe 2 hours earlier then you are used to (If your able to).

      2. Say to your subconscious out loud or in your mind, something like this "Now when I dream, I will say to myself that this is a dream, and as soon as I say that this is a dream. I will know this is a dream and be counscious within my dream" tell yourself that as clearly as you can, so it cant be any misconceptions about what's going to happen when you dream right now. Try to say it like you know it, just in the same type of confidence you have if you would tell yourself your name. Then just go directly to sleep!

      3. Clear your mind 10-15min before bed. Try to meditate or if you dont like or know how to meditate just sit there on your bed and pretend that you are a conscious without any assumptions or labeling about the stuff in your bedroom or anything. Like if you look at a your doorhandle at your door. Dont think about what you call it or what it's used for. Just focus on how it is, the reflection if there is some, the curves of it, different colors in it etc.

      4. Try to se the colors inside of your eyelid when closed. If you recognize that you drifting away, dont blame yourself, just go back to observe the colors within the darkness inside your eyelids. And when you drift in to sleep that's all ok, it just becomes the end of pratice. (This is a technique to make you more observing later in you dreams.)

I can could name a million little rules and techniques but the best way to sum up my feelings on lucid dreaming is by the following quote by Lao Tzu
"Be careful what you water your dreams with. Water them with worry and fear and you will produce weeds that choke the life from your dream. Water them with optimism and solutions and you will cultivate success. Always be on the lookout for ways to turn a problem into an opportunity for success. Always be on the lookout for ways to nurture your dream."
Although this quote is actually referring to your desires and not really your dreams, it actually works incredibly well to abide to this rule when lucid dreaming. Every, absolutely everything in lucid dreaming can be achieved through hope, dedication and good problem solving abilities. I love this quote because it works for all aspects of lucid dreaming, whether it's becoming lucid, or dream control. Follow this rule and you cannot fail.

Become aware of life all around you when awake, the more you'll get to know it and appreciate it the faster you will recognise the dream state.

I am finding, actually I always knew this back when I used to meditate years ago, when I had lucid dreams all the time, but didn't realize the power of them or the usefulness of them, that in order to lucid dream successfully it really only amounts to the level of inner calmness or balance that you can achieve through non though.

Take for example normal dreaming. If you go to bed reminiscing about a subject, are stressed or obsessing over a topic, you will generally dream about it. The mind is like a gyro. Once in motion it tends to remain in motion. If it's always going, I find its hard to direct your dreams because your thoughts will make the dreams less lucid, harder to control and sporadic, so the key I am finding is not forcing a lucid dream, not stressing over a method, worrying about what to do and what not to do, because these all typically support negative though patterns because they are associated with a problem of not being able to lucid dream.

So, the way to overcome this is actually to do the opposite. Stop trying. Stop thinking and just RELAX so that when you do enter into sleep, everything is clear, your mind , your subconscious, your energy, everything is stable. Once you are able to do this, when you enter a dream, you should immediately be able to realize that you are in a dream because you are not being carried by the forces of your mind and body, which inherently distract you and derail you from your primary focus which should be vividness and lucidity.

You can of course still used intention based methods to induce lucidity, as I have in the past , with good results, but now, FOR ME, it's not possible. Too much hinges around success or failure and they all feel counter intuitive. Just over the past few days I have absolutely found a correlation between mental calmness and dream vividness. That's what i am finding is working for me best lately and over the course of years has pretty much always done the job for me. Inevitably if it doesn't feel right or it feels annoying or counter intuitive, don't do it.

      1. There's no past and future, only now exists. If you brag about how you didn't get lucid last nights, it won't change anything. If you expect too much to get lucid, the greater disappointment will come. Get lucid NOW.

      2. Get rid of doubts. Believe yourself that you can get lucid.

      3. Everything is possible in dream. The only thing that is impossible is that dream doesn't last forever. Also in reality(before you go to bed). Even if you go to bed late surely you can have LD. Even if you go to bed early you might not get lucid. It's not true that if you close your eyes in dream you wake up. You don't have to use spinning technique to stabilize your dream. Discard all the rules. Make your own rules for yourself. Confidence and belief are the key.

      4. Do not compare between you and others. Instead, compare between you and yourself. Reference only yourself. Don't try to figure out how other members achieve lucidity.

      5. Don't try LDing when you feel forced to do it. Just be comfortable

I got to say that this... Got to be the best post I've read here on DV, about how to get lucid in dreams! I would like to claim that this text is the summarising-core of lucid dreaming in many levels. Really great summarising! I've actually read this before I was going to work, and it just made my day. This feels like the last piece in the puzzle for me to working on getting lucid every night, because you also seems to have enough experience to really claim what you say. With that I dont say that no one else could claim what they have achieved.

Thank you so much Venn99 for posting this! And a big thanks to every one else for posting your advice's! Every thing that's been posted here so far is of great value to the way of lucid dreaming!

Go to sleep with your mind set on trying your best to become lucid in your dreams. Make it so that if you don't become lucid that night you can say you tried your best.

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way
