I know I wake up at anywhere from 2 to five hours into my first sleep cycle. You might need that slightly earlier alarm.
Assuming your local climate isn't too uncomfortable at night you could also try opening a window while you sleep. You mentioned your house is quiet (unlike gab's) so perhaps on a Sunday night try leaving your window open. Monday morning activity often starts early and can easily give you something to wake up by.
