I got to the borderline sleep paralysis point, no auditory hallucinations or images, just the feeling that with every breath i was sinking deeper and deeper. weird feelings throughout my body too, uncontrollable twitchiness. my question is, do you do this before you've begun your night's sleep, or in the middle of the night sometime after you've caught a few hours? |
i go for it when ima go to sleep normally at night. |
NO. WILDS only work when you are in the middle of your REM cycle. So do this when you first wake up in the morning, because although you may not realize it, most people wake up after every dream and then fall back asleep. That's when you want to do your WILD. It won't work when you first go to bed because it takes literally hours for your body to enter a REM cycle. |
That makes sense, but he is talking about consciously creating his dreams by thinking about specific things in order to transition from wake to LD. Is it necessary to be in REM cycle? Who here has had success with an LD after attempting a WILD when first going to bed at night, and how would that compare to an LD that you step into during REM cycle of late-night/morning sleep? |
iv been able to go into a wild when i first sleep but it does takes longer.(depends how sleepy u are i guess i dunno lol)but thats how i always try to going into it first |

Anyone who has had success with LDing will tell you that it is NEAR impossible at night time without any sleep.. You will have about 95 percent better success after about 5 hours of sleep.. Sometimes people can manage to actually get it to work before bed, but thats the 5 percent we are talking about, and the reasoning for this is because these people usually don't get full nights of sleep and are their body is anxiously awaiting the rem period. This is rare but this is the reasoning behind why it does work for some people.. but let me tell you.. it is very rare.. if you are attempting to ld, do not waste time trying it at night before bed.. you need REM to dream, and its very light at this time.. also your rem periods are much longer after 5 hours of sleep, so if you do manage to LD at night time, it will be very short compared to after 5 hours of sleep.. trust me.. just don't waste your time at night, its not worth it. |

Settle in your seat and dim the lights
I love your no nonsense style OP. Ive only ever had one WILD by accident when falling asleep for the first time unfortunately it must have been a light sleep as i was immediately woken up by my pet rats running about. Whenever ive tried WBTB + WILD. I either overshoot the waking period and can't get back to sleep or get so freaked out during SP i wake myself. |
i tried WBTB at 430am - i went to bed at 1130pm and had to be up at 630am. I tried to WILD, but it was so hard to focus continuing my awareness. i ended up falling asleep and waking up to my alarm for work. how can i combat fatigue and maintain focus? |

According to stephen laberge, the LD guru, you can have dreams at any point in your sleep cycle, however it is much much more likely to happen during REM as someone has already mentioned. He also said the most effective way to WILD is to sleep for about 6 hours, then stay up for 2 hours, then attempt a WILD. Apparently, that increases your chances of WILD even more. If i remember correctly ,your max REM cycle is at 10 hours after going to sleep but most people dont reach that point while sleeping. Also, waking up for 2 hours wont interupt that time frame...apparently, ive never experienced this myself, just heard it on an interview with Mr. Bell on Coast to Coast AM. |
