      FILD Failure..

last night I attempted FILD after waking twice from dreams. The first time I tried it i'm pretty sure I just fell asleep, woke up an hour later or so after another dream and tried again, I was really uncomfy though and the room was light and there was lots of noise distraction, it took me a long time to get back to sleep maybe 10 minutes, I tied to FILD throughout this time but I had to move around a lot to get comfy so gave up in the end.

So I guess my questions are,

How often does FILD work for you?
If you're really uncomfy should you move or stay still and FILD?

Also a kind of side question, in the tutorials it says that FILD does not give you SP but on the other hand DEILD does give you a short SP, why the difference when the methods seem to be so similar?

      Thanks, Skepticsnake

I'm not a FILD master or anything, but from my experience, I haven't been very successful with using it as a replacement for a WBTB WILD. There are only a handful of times when it's worked for me in that sense. However, when used as an alternative to a DEILD, it's been pretty efficient for me. I don't wakeup often after my dreams, but when I do, FILDs tend to have a higher success rate than the DEILD.

As for the comfortable part....i try to remain in the same spot i woke up in (since I use them like a DEILD). If I move in anyway after waking up, I'll just go for a regular WILD. Also, if it takes more than say five minutes, then I get up and go for for a regular WILD later.

As for the tutorial question, I'm not sure. Based on assumption, I would say it's probably because they're using it like a WILD, and the transition takes longer, and thats why they're experiencing it.

I kept up trying FILD, the other night I failed again, but last night I had a kind of success with it.

I think i had a HH but i'm not sure. I woke after a dream and didn't move a muscle or open my eyes (i've been using autosuggestion to try and do this and am very happy it worked!) Upon waking I immediately started FILD and within a few seconds something happened. I was still lying in bed but I could see through my eyelids to a bookcase in the room, this bookcase is in my room in real life but when I saw it it was much closer and I was focusing on a green book. Then I had a kind of bad feeling and got a little scared, I felt like someone was touching the side of my face, I just thought to myself that this was probably SP or something and to just relax, at which point a tingling feeling spread accross my whole face and I decided to do a reality check.

I did the check where you contract a muscle a the back of your throat and try and breathe through your nose, that way you can RC without moving. So tried it and I could still breathe. I assumed I was in a false awakening as I still felt I was in bed. I opened my eyes and moved but my body was too heavy for me to be in a dream, I did the RC again and it failed, I was awake :S

What did I do wrong? Any help or advice for next time would be really really helpful!
Did I try and get up too soon? Is it just a case of practice?

      Thanks, skepticsnake

It sounds like you just need to get some more attempts under your belt. Looks like you're making excellent progress though. Keep it up. Just remember to relax no matter what you think is going on until you're in the dream.

Thanks for the advice Akono, i'll be sure to keep practicing and focussing on the technique im using at the moment as I seem to be making some progress with it. Hopefully just with more preactice I can learn how to transition into lucidity.

Just to update my situation, last night I woke from a dream, didn't move just like before and trid FILD, unfortunately nothing happened. I got a very mild tingling sensation when i tried to immerse myself in a previous dream, but nothing happened from there on.
There were a number of distractions and it was quite late in the morning so this might have had something to do with the lack of results.
I will keep trying this method and hopefully lucid dream one day soon!
      Advice welcome!
