Yeah, it varies from person to person, so you'll actually have to put forth some effort to figure that one out for yourself. I know, it's a terrible thing.

I'm lazy myself, so I can give you a bit of advice if you don't feel like setting an alarm or anything bothersome like that: try your first WILD/WBTB when you feel the least groggiest, after a natural awakening. Make a note of the time you woke up, and go from there.

Typically, you should try to do it later on at night. Every 90 minutes or so, you enter into the REM state. The first one lasts for about 10 mins, but they get longer each time. You should try it with about 6 or so hours of sleep. This will help you with something known as "REM Rebound", which will make your WILD be alot shorter, and make you go into the Dream State much quicker. It will also make your dreams last longer so that you can further enjoy a potential Lucid Dream.

That's not what REM rebound is at all. . .

You're thinking of interrupting a REM cycle part way through, which is something else entirely.

Well, REM Rebound, in the context I've always read it as, is when your body is apt to jump back into REM sleep, skipping all the other stages, which occurs more frequently at night.

REM Rebound may not have been the correct term then, but there is something similar to that word that I've read and looked up before that deals with quickly "rebounding" back into REM sleep.

Yeah, waking up after several sleep cycles puts you closer to REM sleep. Interrupting a REM cycle puts you even closer.

REM rebound occurs after you miss a lot of sleep, specifically REM periods. In REM rebound you'll experience much more REM sleep in your sleep cycles than you would otherwise. REM rebound acts as a way for your body to quickly catch up on this vital function.

      That's the basic idea, anyways.
