Questions about WILD and WBTB

Hey guys, let me get straight to the point of this thread. Although I had no lucids in my life I decided to try WILD as my first technique, because of my low dream recalling abilities, and I am having a little bit of trouble. When I attempt a WILD i get over the itches and get to the point where my whole body is numb. I never had any HI or weird sounds, except for once when I had a rapid heartbeat and a couple of leg spasms and another time when I heard an annoying metal against metal sound. Anyway after the numb part, nothing happens. There is nothing to build a dream form. Dreams won't start by themselves and the only thing I feel is my head swinging back and forth. What am I doing wrong? Note that I am using mantras like: "I am dreaming" which is convenient because it's only 1 word in my language. Do I need to have a good dream recalling ability for WILDS too? Does it have anything to do with initiating a dream or just with remembering it afterwards? I know I may have done several things wrong, I am new to this, but please do point out my mistakes.

As for WBTB, I never remember getting up on my own (except for today which i woke up in the middle of the night and started coughing like hell, guessing it was the end of a dream and I just remember it because I stayed up longer because of the cough) and after waking up from an alarm clock I don't remember any dreams.I usually set my alarm clock 6 hours after sleep, any less and I would be to tired to wake up, any more and I wouldnt have time because of school. The past few days I am also having trouble getting up because I am too tired, or when I do and stay up for half an hour, I am then too tired to WILD.Note that I sleep about 8 hours a night.Any advice would be much appreciated.Sorry for the long post and the long sentences.

Hey there! I think you should train your recall alongside WILDing, even though it doesn't affect the process of doing one. You'll have a better chance of remembering your WILD if it has a low amount of vividness. With your other questions..

I think the numb part you're describing may or may not be sleep paralysis. If it still felt like you could move it, then you might have been on your way to sleep paralysis. But any way, if nothing happens I think you should try visualizing a scene you want to be in. If no dream starts forming, then form one yourself! I'm sure that at this point you're very close to your successful WILD, and the fact that your body is numb, like I said earlier, can signify being close to sleep paralysis or your body has fallen asleep. And it's usually at this point that you can easily enter a dream, whether you or your subconscious creates it first.

Train your recall. The point of WBTB is to get up sometime during (or after) a REM cycle to raise your awareness through being conscious, and being able to quickly enter that REM cycle (or another one) again with increased recall and chance for lucidity for any technique. But the only way to know you were, for sure, in a REM cycle when you wake up is through dreams. I'm sure the time you wake up is good enough, so when you're able to recall even a dream fragment you know you're successfully performing a WBTB. I'm actually not sure if you're supposed to wake up during or after a REM cycle, but I think either way is fine.

Hopefully you'll be able to have an awesome lucid dream from WILD. Until then, sweet dreams..

It sounds like you're pretty close to entering a dream! You might actually be in one and not know it. Sometimes when I try to WILD, I will be lying in bed for what feels like ages, and then I'll do an epiglottis block reality check and I'll realize that I've been dreaming about trying to WILD. :cheeky:

Pretty silly, but it happens. Have you tried doing any reality checks after you get past the hallucinaty aspect of falling asleep and your body feels strange?

Have you seen any increasing in dream recall after wbtb because i am practising with the same routine every night and i found that after wbtb my recall will be higher for the rest night. For this reason i am doing multiple mini wbtbs and my recall is getting better plus i am having more chances of having a successful wild.

Thanks AnotherDreamer that's interesting , I think this may have happened with me. What is an epiglottis block RC and how to go about it to know you are dreaming and do you know any other suchlike RC to do when one doesn't want to move much as in Wild attempts? I have experimented once or twice with trying moving my dream body around and through that getting the idea I must be in dream land so when I get a chance I usualy do that :)

Haha. Give up on Wilding. Get up for some water. Realize that you are already in dream. I love that moment.

That sounds great and when I am able to to that I am gonna be overjoyed :cackle: but till then I am hesitant etc proper newbie I spose - its getting used to the dream body/muscles/world - wish I could just jump up in dream body and get a cool fresh drink of water. It's actualy very refreshing to think of doing something sooo simple -'I love that ... No big deal just getting a drink of water in my dream doopie dooopiedo ( that's me singing along as I do it ;)

Pretty sure that's not the chase, since most of the times I get up after a long period of staying this way and do a reality check before changing my position so I can sleep. (I lay down like a dead person on a coffin when trying to WILD, pretty hard to sleep that way :P )

After some time of trying to WBTB I ve never been able to wake up during a dream. The only way I remember any of my dreams is by waking up after a good 9-10 hours of sleep and staying put for a while. I 've also found out that what I've been doing the previous day and how much I enjoy that affects If I dream, and what it will be. For example after spending some time on this forums and reading about LD I tend to remember a dream that night.

From what I've gathered it's more like REM Atonia, since I can move my body after 1-2 seconds of trying to.Nothing like not being able to move at all, just everything being numb...it's only logical that I can't move a numb limb :P

SileNz why are you laying in a way that is hard for you to fall asleep? You can't wild without sleeping. You can't ld at all without sleeping.

Well, in the one billion tutorials I 've read I am sure I saw somewhere that you must be in a position where you don't quite fall asleep...lel

All you need to know about wilds. I haven't seen a single technique more helpful on wilds on all of dv. You really should do dild and wild techs together though. I wouldn't have half of my wilds without my dild experience and vice versa.

I dont think that you should quit your induction techniques and focus only on dream recall. In my opinion dream recall is a skill that even the most experienced lucid dreamers are trying to improve and a significant improvement might take a realy long time. Just keep a dream journal and build a standard routine with the techniques you had chosen (be sure to keep practicing them for at least 2 months before you decide that this doesn't work for you) and you will see improvement soon :) Just be patient!

I quess you guys are right. I'll be starting again when my exams are over, when I have more time on my hands and less stuff on my mind. Btw I think the DJ is showing results. I dream about twice as much and I once had (what seemed to be) 3 dreams in one night. I figured out two things: First that I need 8+ hours of sleep before a WBTB in order to remember my dreams better and second that my dreams are fcked up. I once dreamt of using a Skyrim shout inside a Minecraft world while being chased by 3 giant wolves, one of which was wearing armor. I haven't played either of these games in a really long while. xD
