      My questions about WILD.

I know, I know, these questions have answers somwhere in the forum. It will just take you a minute and it would help probably a lot if you would answer them anyway!

      1. For a WBTB, does it really mean you have to wake up completely and get out of bed for ~20 minutes? I've found it much easier to go to sleep if I just wake up and then try to WILD immediately, because I'm already very sleepy. Or am I thinking this wrong, and is it actually in that state much harder to WILD?

      2. When visualizing, does this mean I have to visualize the scenery in my head or in front of my eyes? Like, do I have to imagine I'm in the environment or do I have to think about it "in first person" in my head?

      3. Is it useful to count or will this instead make it impossible?

      4. Is it possible to WILD when lying on your side?

      5. If I feel any "sensations" (vibrations, hallucinations) should I give them attention or should I notice but ignore them?

      Thanks in advance!

      1. Some people make a distinction between "proper" WBTB (what you mentioned) and "micro" WBTB (waking up and falling back asleep). However, immediately after waking up a DEILD attempt is strongly recommended, as it is regarded as and is easier than WILD.

      2. Imagine that you're in the dream.

      3. Some people do find it helpful.

      4. Why not?

      5. HH can be very interesting to say the least and should definitely not be ignored.

      1. Well, that's how I wild, though as Postscript said, its more of DEILD. Whatever works for you.
      2. I think that either can work, though I've found that visualization isn't explicitly required and you can enter a dream from blank, though it may take more effort. Again, whatever works for you.
      3. Very useful. It will help keep you aware, whilst you head to the dream.
      4. Yep.
      5. HH can be interesting to observe, but making it a goal or paying too much attention to it may stop you in your tracks. If all you want is to lucid, it might be best to ignore it.

      1. Purpose of WBTB is to wake your mind up, so it doesn't fall asleep too quick into unconsious sleep. For how long you get up differs among people, and even can be different for same person on different nights.

You only stay up, until you can think straight, but you still sleepy enough to fall asleep reasonably quickly. It helps if you tell yoursef, that you going back to sleep. This will also help your mind to understand, that you are not up for the day so it doesn't switch into "daytime mode".

      2. When you first start to visualize, you will be most likely just thinking about it. As you get closer to falling asleep, these thoughts may start to form into images and even movies. But don't force it. What I do is I start thinking about my day, or i think of a fantasy I would like to have. Pretty soon you will notice images. Let them be and evolve, don't try to control them.

      3. Counting and mantras are most commonly used anchors. Anchor is something that will keep you connected to waking world, so you don't forget that you are trying to WILD. I personally find counting too distracting. Try them both and see which one you like better.

      4. Yes. You can WILD in any position. With time you may notice that you having better luck in certain position, or it's the same for all.

      5. Notice but don't try to control and don't get too excited about them. Just observe passively, as you would watch a movie.
