      Concentration problems

I'm finding it really hard to concentrate when attempting to WILD recently. I'll be starting to relax my body to let it fall asleep but my mind won't shut off, it'll just keep going onto tangent after tangent and even if I finally get a dream forming in my mind my brain will then send me off on a different topic and I'll loose the dream!

Any ideas to help me relax my mind too?

Practise some meditation, it is basically the art of controling where you focus your awareness.

We think about so much things during the day, and many people fall asleep stressed and have nightmares or just very chaotic dreams. Although meditation is the practise of doing nothing, which can sound easy at first. But try it. ^^ Pick a mantra like focusing on your breath or a word, the important thing is that it shouldn't have any meaning for you (in order to prvent you from analyzing it).
I use a fun little mantra that goes "Ah-lum-ba-de-dum" and I just repeat that over and over in my mind as I relax and at first thoughts will distract me like "Why am I doing this?" "This is stupid!" or "Man I really should study some" "Oh my toe is itching" etc. But when this happens I just try to go back to my mantra.

With practise you will learn to enter a state of tranquility and peace. This is when you let go of the mantra and just sit in silence and think nothing and also sleep consciously.

If you do your WILD attempt and think alot of stuffs, you are not relaxing the mind and the mind is also focused on physical things, like the body or the attempt itself.

When I meditate I think nothing, wish for nothing, and do nothing.

This is a really goood concentration exercise and not to mention WILD method, however it works even better when you don't have any expectations so as you meditate don't think about anything else but nothing. And that is the difficult part... But remember to never judge the experience, only observe the experience when you understand this you will have an easier time WILDing and mantaining your dreams.

So the "goal" of this exercise isn't to do nothing, the practise of doing nothing is just a tool in order to learn to not judge yourself, when you master this you can sit in silence for hours without doing anything and the most important part, you can by then sleep consciously.

So learn to repeat your mantra (doing, focusing on nothing) -> You are by then not judging yourself -> And you are by then sleeping consciously, because you think nothing but are still aware. To wake up from conscious sleep is an incredible feeling of freedom.

      Happy meditation

Maybe use the shift to your advantage?

My first succesfull WILD happend when I was visualizing something and it got out of controle, my controle.
That's when I realized I had gone from imagining things in my bed to experiencing things in the dreamworld.
I now use these unwanted change as dreamsigns to make me realize I'm ready to start getting lucid in the dream and take over.

      Thanks to you both!!

MasterMind that sounds the most useful for my brain, all my thoughts are very chaotic and progress at such a speed that I can barely keep up and whenever I try to stop them I over focus and over analyse and we tangent back to square one again! So thank yooou!

Booney I have tried that but then my mind just starts repeating the same dream fragment over and over again so I loose the actual dream and then have to start over again. So it's not a very useful mind I own!
