Your body will breathe automatically, even if it feels like it won't. It's a regulated system that can't be turned off even if you fall asleep.
Try to find a method to help you relax (perhaps a mantra or relaxing thought/tune?) and get the breathing thoughts out of your mind. I used to become hyper-aware of my breathing and have similar issues. I had to learn to not pay attention.
When you relax and let those feelings go you may find it easier to experience lucid dreams.
Welcome to the forum! :)
I agree with melanieb. You should definitely look into some meditation or relaxation techniques before attempting. Perhaps it will yield a different result with much more relief. Remember, your thinking can affect how your body responds to certain things, so getting into the proper mindset could help a lot.
Good luck! :D
Try it you'll faint anyway :D Haha no I don't think there is any danger. When I told my friend about lucid dreaming and the WILD technique he told me that had been WILDing without knowing it, so he was a natural WILDer o. O When he described his method he said that the only scary part was when he felt that he couldn't breathe, but if he ignored it he would soon see white clouds, feeling floating sensations and the he dream. But he didn't knew what lucid dreaming was and only used this method to fall asleep! so he fell asleep in the dream.
Talk about a waste of an ability. x.x
Go ahead and learn to relax. It'll help.
Additionally you may want to try relaxing/sleeping in a semi-inclined position, like you might experience in a lounge chair. The soft tissues(soft palette) of the mouth and throat slip back when we lie down on our backs, causing the airway to constrict. This is responsible for many people snoring. It can also make you feel like you won't breathe, especially when attempting WILD. You will breathe but because you lose control while attempting WILD it can feel scary because you're aware of the unusual sensation and breathing constriction.
You will breathe. I promise.
Lie on your side or in a semi-inlicned position and this should be greatly reduced. It even works with WILD.
okay i think i've gotten to the stage where i don't realise i'm breathing, but then i just see nothing and wait, then get tired of waiting and just fall asleep normally :P
Seems like you're doing well:).
Do not to wait for anything, as waiting is boring. Try just holding on to your awareness through your anchor, while letting go of everything else. Even if you don't happen to experience any hallucinations, your mind will eventually create an internal world, where the dream will take place:).
Happy dreaming, Tucane
Not a fan of DP...
A pillow is probably a good thing to keep.
You can try different pillows and padding. Experimentation seems to make things work better.
Still working on the relaxing?
I also wonder what DP is...though I can think of a few ideas. :-?
I prefer 2 pillows for my head and sometimes 1 for each of my hands aswell. Usually i watch far into the space of my closed eyelids, creating a sense of being really far away, making losing connection with reality (head, body, etc) quite easy.
DP is short for double posting, which sometimes happens randomly due to connection errors. As I don't like repeating myself, i deleted the post content and explained why:).
When thinking of other possible kinds of DP, i'm propably not a fan of those either. Although, i don't mind listening to Deep Purple on occasion:).

My hardest problem is swallowing. I'll randomly do it even if Im not thinking about it, really ruins things :(
Don't wait for massive saliva build-up. It will cause you to swallow by reflex and that breaks your focus. Just swallow when you feel like, without giving it any thought and you'll be fine:).

so like i can get to the point where i see random shapes and hear voices at random... but then i just fall asleep, how do i hold on to my conciousness XD
An easy way to not fall asleep is to choose a different sleeping posture, like laying down. Although I fall asleep easily in this one too, so I exaggerated a little and chose a sitting position but in bed, and now it's impossible to fall asleep unconsciously. The only obstacle now is patience. A bonus of this weird sleeping posture is that I somehow get more aware of my dreams to help me induce DILD and improve dream recall, so even if I give up or fall asleep unconsciously I got one more chance. :)
This has happened to me before. I panicked because I couldn't breath and started to wake up myself. I will try to stop focusing on my breathing when WILD, just hope I don't die. (JK)
