I don't think it is. I just recently read some articles, about how people used to sleep in two shifts, right up untill maybe 18. century. There was a "first sleep", then people woke up, read, talked, visited friends for an hour and then went for a "second sleep". It's suppost to be the natural way of sleeping and it may explain insomnia in so many people, when they can't fall back to sleep after sleeping a few hours.
If this is true, I have no idea, as I have never heard about this before. Happy dreams
