What am I doing wrong (external noises, perhaps)?

Hello! I'm new to the forums, so I hope I formatted this post correctly. I was wondering if any of you could tell me what I'm doing wrong with my WILD. Here's what happened:

Last night, just like every night, I tried to do a WILD. I believe I am getting closer, and this is probably the closest I have ever gotten. I got into a comfortable position, and closed my eyes. After tossing and turning a bit, I found an even more comfortable position. I stare into the darkness of my eyelids, and begin to count to 100, and after each number saying the phrase "I'm dreaming". After counting to 100 and back down, my heater turns on. It's actually quite soothing, so I count back to 100 again. On the way down, at about 50 I start to see a flicker of light. Now, this isn't anything like a real light, as it seems a bit dimmed. I continue counting, and my heart rate increases. I start to remember something I read on the forums about swallowing preventing WILD's, so of course I feel the need to swallow. I try to stop myself, but I can't and I swallow. Then all of a sudden, I see lights. Dimmed, like before, but lights nonetheless. It looks sorta like a comma, then flys around and spins in a circle. Then all of a sudden, multiple rings of light start expanding out, like when spaceships go into warp speed in a movie. My heart starts racing, and the rings of light feel like they're starting to drag me in somewhere. As the light gets stronger and faster, the background (eyelids) get darker, as if I'm getting pulled into to them. I am almost completely unaware of the outside world, except I am swallowing uncontrollably. Then my heater turns off, and the lights trail off. I feel my physical body again, and my eyelids are left extremely dark; much darker than before. My mind has extreme clarity, and I am not groggy at all. I feel what I can only describe as a very small charge of electricity going through my body. At first, I am excited - I feel like I am going to start the dream soon. I start doing the counting again, a few times. Nothing happens. I start to think that I'm in the dream, and when I open my eyes I will be in a bed floating in the clouds. I count even more. My shoulder starts to ache from the position I'm in, with my head turned. After waiting about 40 minutes, I get sick of it and open my eyes. I am still in sleep paralysis, so I break free of it and do a reality check. An hour has passed. I am sick of trying to WILD, so I go to sleep normally. Although once, my mind strays to a thought and I hear a very realistic beep (an audio hallucination). I go to sleep. I wake up at 5 and shut off the alarm immediately, trying not to move. I try to count but fall into slumber before I even reach 50. So tell me, what am I doing wrong? 3 times I have seen the rings of light just to be brought back to the "physical world" by some outside noise (twice my heater, once people talking).

      What do I do?

I would like to know this answer as well. I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I just had to say congratz on making it that far! ^^

Are you doing it at a time that coincides with a REM cycle?

I find these are easier to do in either the middle of the night (after sleeping for four to five hours) or later in the morning or afternoon. The times when you might naturally cycle down in your energy levels are often good times to make attempts.
