Relaxing issues with WILDing, please help

OK, so, I have had 1 DILD and 1 WILD since becoming a DV member (roughly 2 weeks ago). The DILD was by far the longest. I made 2 things appear from nothing and did a few other interesting things then the lucidity wore off, I had a false awakening but couldnt jump back into the dream.

The WILD on the other hand, only lasted seconds. I did the FILD (finger tapping technique). I was lying in bed and started tapping and the next thing I knew I could hear a faint radio playing music in the background. Not having a radio in my room I immediately knew I was dreaming. Except this time, I got too excited and immediately woke up.

Here's the problem. Since those 2 LDs, I have been trying to do a WILD every night because I naturally wake up in the middle of the night, every night, like clockwork. I think I am sike-ing myself out too much because I've been havinh trouble relaxing. I will get comfy and start to feel the wave of energy take over (start of SP) and then I will get a terrible itch that I HAVE to scratch. Or, I will HAVE to swallow. And even when Im not itching or swallowing, Im thinking about not itching and not swallowing so much that it prevents me from fully relaxing. How should I go about combating this problem? I dont mean to sound cocky but I truly believe if I can move past this issue, I would be a natural at LDing. I have amazing recall (I can remember atleast 3 dreams EVERY night), I recognize my dream signs, and ever since becoming a member my confidence is through the roof. Relaxation is the only thing holding me back and it is super frustrating.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated and please keep in mind, this only happens when I attempt to WILD. Falling asleep at the start of the night is no problem at all

Dude, I have the same exact problem. It sucks so freaking much. My main problem is swallowing. Like I can't help it at all. I hope that someone gives you good advice cause it hinders my ability to move on in the WILD process. Thank you for posting this dude!

How long are your WILD attempts? The first few minutes for me are a waking hell when it comes to relaxing. My eyes twitches and I can barely keep them closed. My nose itches every 10 seconds and I have to swallow just as often, I find myself feeling really tense in my neck and shoulders. The trick for me is to absolutely not get frustrated or to feel that I have to "start over" everything. You have to treat the itches and swallowing just as you treat your thoughts that passes trough your head when attempting to get into SP. Just let it happen, scratch it, swallow it, think it and just let it pass and move on.

Every time I attempt an WILD it takes me at least 10-15 minutes before i'm fully relaxed and either enter a SP or simply fall asleep.

Ive never actually entered into SP. Someone gave me some good advice that said that thinking about the itchs or swallowing isnt the issue. The issue is that my mind is focused on my body and not my mind. Like I said before though, even if I dont have an itch, I will think about not having the next one, or "Should I scratch or not scratch the next one?". This is wrong. When Im not trying to WILD and just regularly falling asleep this is NEVER an issue. I think I need to be in that mindset when attempting WILDs instead of where Im at now. Thats whats holding me back I believe. Im thinking about it too much. I should be thinking about it at all, I shouldnt even be thinking about falling asleep. I shouldnt be thinking about anything, just rolling with the punches, so to speak.

Okay, I've done a bit of research on KingYoshi's WILD Guide and a few others. With the Swallowing and Itching problem, just go ahead and do it. If you think about it, you'll be too concerned with the phyical and won't enter SP.

So, instead of thining about it, go ahead and scratch it and go back to concentrating. Or just keep focusing on your breathing, and you won't think about it.

On a side note; In KingYoshi's guide it says to go ahead and switch positions about every 7-10 minutes. Explanations and details can be found on this, very informative guide, here: http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/yoshis...chnique-82529/

Ok cool, but here's a question...wouldn't focusing on breathing be considered the physical? And I do scratch the itch and swallow but afterward I still worry about the next upcoming itch, you see? So even if I dont have an itch yet, Im thinking about it

In my opinion, tend to your bodies needs. It would cause more issues to worry about NOT swallowing or itching, then to just itch/swallow really quick and forget about it. I haven't had a WILD yet, but Im trying tonight...wish me luck!

Well, the breathing is meant to just have a focus (based on what I've read.) The only knowledgeable advice I can give is that, don't think about it. I know that's hard, (well, for me it is) Also, there is a thread for this situation. Here: http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/someth...35/#post520297
Good Luck, hope I could have helped!

I find fascination in falling asleep consciously and the other night I experienced the whole thing. Did you know that your tongue curls up and your jaw clenches when you are sleeping to stop you from swallowing. It's a really weird feeling. :p

      No. Not really.

Please stop believing everything you read. That's how misinformation spreads.

Two seconds of research would have revealed this: Influence of sleep state on frequency of swallowing, apnea, and arousal in human infants

tl;dr: Swallowing while sleeping is normal in humans.

      Edit:

Also, that has nothing to do with "SP".

For everything I have to say on "SP", please read the following: http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/sleep-...tified-131380/
