      Successful WILD! :)

This is the second WILD I have been able to have. With two now under my belt, I can draw some conclusions about the similarities and ask some questions.

Last night I woke up around 5:30am. I then went to sleep basically like I do initially at night. When I got uncomfortable, I moved. I sort of faded in and out -- I didn't go to sleep exactly, but sometimes I was caught up in a daydream or just not thinking. When I realized I was conscious I would recite a few mantras until my attention to that faded. At one point during the night I felt a strange sensation come over my body, and then the vibrations began.

The first time I WILDed, the vibrations were VERY intense and I heard a loud noise coming closer, like a train. And when I opened my eyes in the dream, I tried to move places but was hit with wave after wave of vibrations. This time, however, the vibrations I felt were rather mild. I was still caught up in the sensation, but there was no terrifying noise. And when I felt that it was over, I opened my eyes, sat up, and they didn't come back.

I also felt weirdly sleepy in my dream, like when I get up in the morning. My eyelids were very heavy and kept wanting to close. Just like in the morning, I tried to keep my eyes open for increasingly longer periods. In the meantime I felt my bedspread to build a stronger connection with the dreamworld. I also performed a few reality checks.

Once I was fully "awake" I tried to get a dream character to appear. At first nothing happened--my mind was blocking me from doing anything. This happened last time during my WILD: I couldn't get anything remotely interesting to happen. But this time, I remembered a guide I had read here, that said that the only thing blocking dreamers from doing anything they wanted was their belief that, say, flying was difficult, or an object wouldn't levitate. Just as that thought entered my mind, I saw a burst of bright light, and a person appeared. I'll spare the forum the rest of my dream; it's not important. It lasted about five minutes and then faded until I gained awareness of my real body.

So have any of you ever had markedly different or varying WILD transitions night-to-night? Do you find you have to be so close to sleep that beginning the transition is almost waking you up? And has anyone felt realistically sleepy in a dream?

Side note: I also didn't feel as excited as I thought I would be -- I was LUCID DREAMING, after all. But both times, after reality checking, I was totally calm and accepting of the fact. I wouldn't be complaining (after all, it means I don't excite myself awake), except for then instead of too many ideas of what to do, I can't think of anything exciting. Despite all the times I think about what I'd like to do over the course of the day.

That's rather odd(for me ). So you're saying that you managed to WILD without really actually "trying"? Just letting your mind wander and catching yourself sometimes? I should try that haha, I'm always way too concentrated.

P.S. Congrats! I'm still yet to experience one.

This is very similar to the Free-Falling Technique. Just don't "catch yourself" too intensely/abruptly, or you might end up moving yourself closer to awareness. It's really all an experiment to see what works best for you. Good luck.

It was weird in retrospect for me too. I had been doing what many of the general guides here tend to say -- lying still, counting, imagining my dream scenario. Nothing worked. Recently I either wake up or get woken up by my alarm in the morning, and then I stretch a little, roll over, and go back to sleep. I find that when I recite mantras, I'm more likely to have a DILD, which is a decent consolation prize for a failed WILD attempt. The night I described above I would sink almost into unconsciousness, then regain some feeling in my body and end up having to roll over. On the third or fourth time I did this, I had the WILD. I was quickly falling unconscious, and it feels like I was. The transition itself was dreamlike. I felt like I was dreaming the vibrations, almost. Then I could open my eyes. But yeah, it was strange -- I've been trying to do it since, without success. It's not an official technique, and the success rate is way too low for anyone else to adopt it.
