First wild experience :) and some questions
It's currently about half an hour after my dream and I can't fall back asleep, so in going to basically recount my experience. It might get a little long, but any feedback is appreciated.
The setup: I had set my alarm to about 4 hours after I fell asleep, because recently that's been when I naturally wake up. I figured that was my natural REM cycle. Today, though, I slept through my alarm and woke up about 6.5 hours after first sleeping. I figured I'd try to WILD anyway. So I layed down on my back and tired to clear my mind. After half an hour of this, I was getting very bored because my mindset wasn't even close to sleepy. So I rolled slowly over into the more comfortable position on my side. I tried counting down and didn't get past 75; I recited a few mantras. I didn't feel SP. Somehow I managed to fall asleep and stay conscious in the right balance today.
The transition: I felt some strange sensations at first, like my perceived body was kind of shifted from my real body. Then I started to see little flashes of light as my body began to vibrate. The vibrations got intense and I heard a very loud noise getting louder. I was afraid but told myself that it would be over soon, it would be--! Then the vibrations and noise faded away, and I opened my eyes in my own bed.
The dream: I pinched my nose and could breathe easily. But before I could do anything else, I was hit with another wave of vibrations/noise. I sat up, and another wave. And another. And another. This had actually happened before a few nights ago when I dreamt I had a WILD. I couldn't move, couldn't dream--I was aware and lucid dreaming but the vibrations wouldn't cease. They were so intense they were forcing my eyes closed. The dream was fading before my eyes! It took physical effort to repress the waves, but I managed to. Once I had those under control, I could decide what to do next.
I wasn't quite sure how to go about exploring the world of the dream. I looked at my hand to see if I had extra fingers, but I didn't. I really wanted to go outside and start flying, but I didn't want to leave my bed. See, before I fell asleep I had been thinking about all the different nightmare things I might see...the things hiding in my closet or under my bed or just outside my door. So that seeped into my subconscious and therefore into my dream.
I tried some different ways I had read about of teleporting. I couldn't look around a corner or turn around well so I tried to sink into my bed and show up somewhere else. No luck. I tried melting through the wall behind me. Also nothing. The dream was frustratingly realistic. I grabbed a stuffed animal that had appeared on my bed and tossed it in the air, visualizing and believing it would stay suspended. It just fell back down. I didn't want to close my eyes for fear that I would just wake up. So I decided I would get out of bed.
I guess my subconscious was afraid, because when I dropped the stuffed animal over the side of the bed, my old childhood nightmare creature--a snake--shot out from under the bed and attacked it. I was terrified, but I decided to confront it. Since this is getting long I'll spare the details. Basically, I cut it up and dropped it in the garbage. As I approached the door of my room, the dream faded away and I woke up.
I thought that having symbolically gotten rid of my nightmare creature I would be free of fear. But I didn't get out of bed until my room was light enough, and I freaked when the blanket touched the back of my leg while stepping out. So my questions are these:
• Have any of you experienced the vibrations/HI compounded in your dream? How do you break free of that?
• During the transition the sensations were so intense I couldn't concentrate on visualizing anything. How do I gain awareness in the dream somewhere besides my room?
• How can I change the dreamscape without leaving my bed or closing my eyes?
• What if the dream refuses to do anything I want?
• How do I convince my subconscious to stop fearing WILD and the lucid experience?
