Most keys to keeping aware is finding an anchor that works for you. It's a delicate balance between paying too much attention to your anchor and not being aware enough of it. Counting your breaths may not work for you--you want something that can passively engage your brain enough to keep you aware during the transition. If you find breathing is too difficult to find the balance, try some other anchor. These can range from a change in sleep temperature, to a dull pain, to a white noise. More info about anchors can be found elsewhere on DV. Experiment around and see what works best. Everyone's different. |
