Thread: I'm new! A few questions about WILD.

Hello everyone, I would like to know these things, it would be awesome if you helped me out here:
Why is it not likely to have a successful WILD when you try it at the start of your sleep? Why does it have to be a nap or waking up in the middle of the night?
Is it possible to have a good WILD at the beginning of your nightsleep?

Because I tried WILD just when going to sleep at the beginning of the night and I think I came close to SP not sure.

My other question is, when I attempted WILD yesterday, ( Also at the beginning of my nightsleep ) it felt like I was going to sufficate, I was too afraid of letting go of the breathing, it's a little hard to explain. What I want to know is, is there a point during WILD where you have to stop breathing consciously and give up the breathing which then will be done by your subconsciousness or is it possible to remain taking breaths consciously all the way through?

Sorry if it turned out a little confusing, it even is for me.

I believe the reason it is not likely to WILD at the beginning of the night is because your REM cycles are very short, and you go through some NONREM cycles(Which dreams usually don't occur in NONREM) Waking up during the middle is sufficient because your REM cycles are much longer and closer together.

The feeling of suffocating is normal, and I think it's a sign that you were on the right track.

Some people can't WILD before sleep, others can. It all depends on the individual. I personally have had a WILD at the start, so it's not at all impossible. And I know that with practice and determination, anyone can WILD when ever they want. It seems like your SP is a bit... violent. However, generally you just keep breathing as you normally would. But when you get into SP your brain kind of turns breathing into a involuntary act. You don't have to actually "do" it so much. Lucid Dreaming as a whole, is confusing. But the more your learn about it, the easier it is to understand. Hope this helped, good luck!

This is correct. However, even pros recommend not commencing a WILD at your normal sleep time. The have describe it as

short and unstable

As for your second question, sometimes yes and sometimes no. I'm not sure if any factors play a role into this. It is very possible to remain consciously breathing all the way through as long as you relax yourself mentally and physically to a certain degree which let's both factors fall asleep. May I ask what position you were trying your WILD in?

Yeah, it was just on my side like I always sleep. Perhaps it was just my first time close to a SP and I panicked, hopefully next time it will be better.

Also, can you do a WILD any time through the day? For example it's 2pm here now, can I try to do WILD or do you have to be sleep deprived to do it during the day? Thanks

You don't have to be sleep deprived but it's good to be tired enough to fall asleep. A WILD during the day should be like a regular WILD. I would recommend your body a little bit before hand first, though, just to relax it a little.
