      could it be sleep paralysis?

I went to bed at around 5am, put my headphones like I always do, and after about 10 minutes, I started to see some colourful swirls in shades of black, not really sure how to describe it. I also got a feeling of numbness in some parts of my body, and like I was sinking in my bed. I thought it could be sleep paralysis and started to feel excited, but I think I managed to control it. After a while it went away.
Was it sleep paralysis? If it was, what did I do wrong?

sounds like it. What do you mean by "what did i do wrong?" If you mean why did it suddenly stop, then im guessing it was due to you getting too excited and waking your body up again. Lol i always freakout when im SP dunno why just the feeling of not being able to move gets to me so i always try and fidget out of it -_-

I didn't try to move though, so i'm not sure if I was already on SP.

If I feel I'm close to SP but not 100% sure, I just slightly move my elbow. It's enough to make me aware of my state (wake or asleep), but not enough to stop the SP process.

It's quite a weird experience, it took my 2 previous experiences before I realised I could actually test it

When I feel like chickening out, I just remember what it is: the gateway to a Lucid Dream. And that calms me down enough to just let it happen

I should probably think of it that way as well, but in the past when i had SP i never really understood the WILD technique i often thought it was too complicated guess i need to look more into it Ive been into lucid dream for nearly 5 years now but I have had a massive dry period of like 4 years so Im trying to get back into it lately ive been dreaming at least once a night sometimes more so im feeling like im heading back into it
