My reality checks aren't working

I have several reality checks I do throughout the day that seem to work well. I close one eye and see if I can see my nose; I look at clocks and mirrors; when I'm alone I try to jump and float; sometimes I try to push my fingers through my hand. But sometimes I dream I'm in a familiar place that has no clocks or mirrors, and the reality checks make it seem like I'm awake--until I try one I don't regularly use during the day. But I don't usually think to do those in a dream, so a lot of times lucidity is just wasted. How do I fix that?

In my opinion, most of the time, when i get lucid in my dreams, its about sudden burst of awareness within a dream and only after that i do reality check. So i think the reality checks are not as important as feeling alive while encountering a dreamsign. So if you have a dream journal, identify recurring themes, write them down one by one, and then read them one after another and try to feel as happy and alive as possible while imagining the dreamsign.

In my opinion, getting lucid is like waking up in a dream. Reality check itself has not that drive which would wake you up, it is just confirmation for you, that you are in fact in a dream. What you need to do is to attach that wow feeling to most recurring dream themes, attach the feeling: Hey this is something i would wake up for in the middle of the night.

I agree, awareness is key. Check some good awareness methods they are really usefull and anyone can be succesfull with them.
