Having trouble reaching SP? Try this.

I've had quite a few SP episodes before and realized that the majority of them happened when I was in a relatively cool room. Not "comfortably cool", but cool as in "okay, it's kinda hard to fall asleep because the air around me is chilly." It's that temperature where you just want to get a big blanket, wrap yourself in it, and curl up in bed or on the couch.

If you're stuck on getting to SP and don't know where to start, try lowering the thermostat to a temperature that's just bearable.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I can second this theory! When I lived in England, I had a crappy room (windows didn't fully close etc) and had LOTS of SPs (no LDs though, because it freaked me out because I didn't know what it was XD). Now I'm back in Belgium in a lovely apartment, where it's always comfortable and I have more trouble reaching SP. I didn't link the temperature to the lack of SP though! So I'll just try sleeping without heating tonight!

I think the 'shiver down your spine' feeling is definitely similar to some of the feelings around sleep paralysis onset

Cool room? I will try that tonight. Now all I need is something to keep me from swallowing saliva any ideas?

You swallow when you're falling asleep normally, right?

I would suggest someone make a guide dispelling all the stupid, ridiculous myths surrounding WILD, like the idea that you must remain perfectly still...but then I realized, these guides already exist. mzzck has made more than one. Yet people still refuse to read them? It's vexing.

How is lying still until you're out of your mind with discomfort and the urge to move supposed to help you enter a dream?

There seem to be two schools:
Don't do anything at all for an hour until you maybe hit sleep paralysis
Fall asleep naturally while retaining consciousness to enter a dream

I know which school I subscribe to

My house is always freezing, especially at night. My fiancee heats up to 1 million degrees when she sleeps, so we have to keep it cold to keep her from spontaneously combusting. You may be onto something, here.

your right I do swallow when I sleep(no homo) lol I swallowed earlier today when I was trying to achieve sleep paralysis, and it didnt seem to throw me off that much...only ever so slightly...

Mzzck you say? I will have to look up some of his guides so my novice knowledge on SP wont vex you so

Looking back, I've had a good number of WILDs in such conditions.

Might give this a shot next time I'm at my GF's place, since it's pretty much a giant refrigerator: great for chilling canned beverages and preserving the occasional body sleepovers.

Oh, and what's this about a Mzzck character writing up guides similar to mine? I thought users weren't allowed to impersonate other users. . . or was that just Staff?

      I get confused sometimes.

Maybe use a name with some actual semantic meaning that isn't a jumble of letters so people like me don't misspell it!

I woke up 2 minutes before my alarm would go off, so I couldn't be bothered to get up already so I just dozed off for a bit.. ..and went into SP >_< my alarm scared the @#$%^& out of me! I was hallucinating about someone in the corner of my room and suddenly his mouth opens up really (freakishly) wide and out comes.. ..my alarm clock, making its sound. Jolted me right out of SP.

That's unusual. People's body temp usually falls during sleep.

So should I be out of the covers, or in the covers? Or just use sheets?
